Entry-Level Highway Design Civil Engineer

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry-Level Highway Design Civil Engineer in the Harrisburg PA area to join AECOMs Mid-Atlantic Transportation team working on a wide range of transportation projects in the Greater Pennsylvania Area in our Mechanicsburg PA office.

This position is flexible to begin in Early 2026 for December 2025 Graduates or Spring/Summer 2026 for May/June 2026 a Civil Engineering focus in transportation.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Creates designs calculations sketches diagrams schematic drawings and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
• Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
• Design of roadway geometry traffic control signing and pavement markings.
• Utility coordination support.
• Computer Aided Design production.
• Calculation of quantities and cost estimates.
• Assists in the preparation of technical reports and memoranda.
• Participates in field visits and site inspections to gather data and assess project conditions.
• Contributes to the development of environmental impact assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Assists in the preparation of permit applications and regulatory compliance documents.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to integrate various aspects of highway design projects.
• Supports the development of project schedules and helps monitor project progress.
• Participates in client meetings and presentations under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Assists in the review of contractor submittals and RFIs (Requests for Information).
• Contributes to the development of construction specifications and contract documents.
• Supports quality control processes by checking calculations and drawings produced by team members.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
• Participating in an academic track with focus in transportation highways roadways traffic and/or pavement design.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pursuing degree from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Demonstrate effective time management task prioritization and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work productively in a team environment.
• Professionalism in verbal and written communications
• Ability to adapt to shifting priorities/work schedules.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite
• NCEES FE (any state)
• Technical experience preferred in MicroStation & AutoCAD Bentley OpenRoads and/or InRoads Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Prior relevant internship experience is a plus.
• Receptive to comments and direction provided by others.
• Valid U.S. Drivers License preferred to visit project sites clients and other AECOM offices when public transportation is not available

• This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Harrisburg PA (Mechanicsburg).  The selected candidate must be available to work in Harrisburg PA (Mechanicsburg) on a scheduled basis.
