Job Summary:
The Distribution Systems Operator Engineer is responsible for the safe efficient and reliable distribution of electricity or gas. This role involves monitoring controlling and maintaining distribution systems using technologies like SCADA responding to emergencies managing system load and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities:
- Continuously monitor the electrical or gas distribution system using SCADA and DMS.
- Maintain system reliability by overseeing power flow voltage regulation and system balance.
- Respond to alarms outages and emergency conditions.
- Make critical decisions to isolate faults and restore service.
- Manage system load distribution during normal and peak conditions.
- Perform switching operations to reconfigure circuits and restore service.
- Diagnose and resolve distribution system issues.
- Analyze operational data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain communication with field personnel dispatchers engineers and maintenance teams.
- Collaborate with planning engineering and maintenance departments.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA NERC and company safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of system operations outages and maintenance activities.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation.
- Participate in routine inspections and maintenance.
- Stay current with industry developments and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Power Systems Engineering or a related field.
- Strong understanding of electrical and/or gas distribution principles and equipment.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to make sound operational decisions under pressure.
- Adaptability to work rotating shifts weekends and holidays.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Advanced degree.
- Previous experience in distribution system operations utility operations or a related engineering role.
- Familiarity with power distribution systems and electrical equipment.
- NERC Certification or other relevant industry certifications.
- Proficiency in SCADA DMS and other utility-specific operational software.
Special Considerations:
- Must be able to work rotating shifts weekends and holidays as part of 24/7 operations.
