Job Summary:
The Coordinator of Workers Compensation is responsible for the day-to-day operational functions of the Workers Compensation department. This role involves ensuring timely processing of employee workplace injuries and workers compensation claims managing the injury prevention program and acting as a liaison between employees departments and the Employee Health nurse. The coordinator also collaborates with Human Resources on transitional return to work and maintains OSHA-required documents.

Responsibilities:
- Handle day-to-day operational functions of the Workers Compensation department.
- Ensure timely processing of employee workplace injuries and workers compensation claims.
- Manage the Workers Compensation injury prevention program.
- Evaluate employee injury reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Communicate with employees and managers on reported workplace injuries claims and work status.
- Advise and educate employees regarding workers compensation matters and injury prevention.
- Collaborate with Human Resources on transitional return to work and monitor employees in modified duty assignments.
- Maintain all OSHA-required documents and records regarding workers compensation.
- Review workers compensation claims and litigated matters to ensure appropriate management.
- Coordinate and monitor eligible claims with the third-party administrator and insurers.
- Assist employees in the ergonomic assessment process.
- Act as a liaison between employees departments and the Employee Health nurse relative to work-related injuries and illnesses.
- Initiate proper response to work-related injuries including initial investigation and gathering relevant facts.
- Provide appropriate forms and information to injured workers.
- Monitor Workers Compensation claims and ensure compliance in all legal aspects.
- Coordinate medical treatment with the Workers Compensation TPA and with physicians and other specialties.
- Submit legally required paperwork to comply with regulatory agencies.
- Provide work status to the department manager of the injured worker.
- Identify modified duty assignments within the injured workers restrictions.
- Coordinate Interactive Process with employees that have work limitations.
- Provide modified earnings to TPA.
- Monitor status of Workers Compensation leaves and coordinate issues such as SLR/PTO disability pay and payment of insurance benefits.
- Assist legal counsel in items such as preparation of personnel and payroll files.
- Review medical invoices for appropriate processing.
- Arrange for ergonomic evaluations at workstations.
- Review Loss Replenishments for accuracy.
- Coordinate settlement authority as needed between TPA and upper management.
- Review files with TPA for proper handling and recommendations.
- Teach quarterly class with LOA Coordinator: Overview of LOA/WC Class to inform Supervisors & Management of LOA & Work Comp Process.
- Provide statistics and reports to the Environment of Care and SWIT Committee.
- Prepare PI Reports for Employee Health Human Resources and Environment of Care.
- Identify trends or safety issues which may result in injury to employees or patients.
- Maintain Workers Compensation database with current information on injured workers.
- First response to employee and/or management questions regarding benefits safety and leaves of absence.
- Monitor Workers Compensation Program and recommend changes as needed.
- Monitor and address changes in Work Comp laws as well as FMLA ADA FEHA Dept. of Self Insurance etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Knowledge of workers compensation rules and regulations OSHA standards FMLA and disability laws short term and long-term disability
- Minimum 5 years in workers compensation administration
- Minimum 1 year in benefits administration
- High school diploma or GED certification
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- California Self Insured Administrators License
- Bachelors degree
Special Considerations:
- Training will be done at the Whittier location.
- May report to a different location depending on case load but will not travel during the day.
Scheduling:
- 5x8 hour shifts
- Start time is flexible around 7:30 AM
