Job Summary

Founded in 1953 Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

Qualifications for Employment

Education (Minimum Requirements): Bachelors Degree in a relevant field or an Associate Degree with three years of relevant experience.

Employment Experience Preferred: Three years in international student affairs at a public and/or private post-secondary institution.

Pertinent Other: Proficiency in all U. S. Immigration Laws and Regulations and Procedures concerning F-1 M-1 and J-1 status. Must possess excellent written oral and cross-cultural communication skills with a degree of cultural sensitivity that enables them to work with individuals of diverse languages cultures and ethnic groups.

Must be either a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident to meet eligibility requirements to become a Primary Designated School Official with the Department of Homeland Security Student and Exchange Visitor Program.

Nature and Scope of Duties

The Coordinator for International Student Services reports to the Director of Global Initiatives or his/her designee and performs the following duties:

1. Serving as the Primary Designated School Official maintaining all F-1 Student Records for regulatory compliance in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and performing all necessary functions in SEVIS.

2. Serving as campus liaison to the Department of Homeland Security Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) that certifies all F-1 records.

3. Provide guidance to International Students to assist them in maintaining lawful Immigration Status via meetings and electronic communications.

4. With the support of the Admission Office oversee the admissions process for prospective International Students; advise the Admissions Office regarding credential evaluation and international status concerns.

5. Provides updates to the Office of Communications for the International Student Web Pages on the colleges website.

6. Assist International Students with applications for immigration benefits (e.g. Employment Authorization Extension of Stay and Change of Non-immigrant Status) and complete all related process to said applications in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) along with issuing all required documentation from the college.

7. Assist International Students with various issues impacting their adjustment and success and make appropriate referrals.

8. Issuing Invitation Letters for Family Members of Foreign-Born Students in addition to Specialized Letters for Foreign-Born Students as needed.

9. Maintains student records databases admissions processing and other administrative tasks (i.e. Prepares letters drafts office correspondence researches and prepares reports student budgets Federal documents and applications.

10. Serves as liaison and mediator for International Students with campus personnel community members and other institutions agencies and governments on student related issues.

11. Serve as the International Student Accident and Illness Insurance Plan Administrator as well as the SUNY J-1 Consortium Exchange Visitor Advisor.

12. Plans and implements student programming activities (i.e. International Student Orientation special topic workshops and joint programming with other campus/community entities).

13. Interview and track the admissions process of prospective International Students; advise the Admissions Office regarding credential evaluation and international status concerns.

14. Assist with Global Initiatives as needed.

15. Maintain the colleges network of global connections and partners.

16. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Global Initiatives.

This is a 12-month Full-Time position with a salary range of $45000-$48000.
