POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

The Evening Library Operations Support Specialist ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the library during evening and late-night hours. This position provides effective coordination and operational oversight to maintain the same high level of service available during daytime operations. Responsibilities include monitoring building conditions coordinating with Facilities and other departments to address maintenance or safety issues and serving as the primary on-site contact for operational concerns outside of regular business hours. The role also oversees circulation desk functions supervises evening student assistants and ensures proper building security and closure each night. Through consistent communication and collaboration with library leadership this position plays a crucial role in providing service continuity operational efficiency and a safe and welcoming environment for all library users.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduate with two years of related experience strong customer service skills excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Willingness and ability to work evening and late-night hours.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

General knowledge of customer service desk operations. Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders such as faculty staff and students. Demonstrated organizational skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills especially when working independently during evening and late-night hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prefer candidates with some college education general knowledge of library operations and familiarity with a library computer system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
  • 50% - Performs circulation desk duties including circulating materials supervising evening student assistants resolving patron and circulation issues processing deliveries and packages and assisting users with locating course reserves and general inquiries. Provides oversight of all library circulation activities during evening and late-night hours (Sunday through Thursday). Collaborates with the Equipment and Stacks Specialist and the Circulation Manager to complete projects and operational tasks that promote service continuity and operational efficiency during evening hours. Additionally processes holds and intercampus loans checks the book drop for returns and updates records as needed to support timely access to library materials. At closing ensure full building lockdown by clearing remaining patrons shutting down all equipment and securing and alarming all doors. - (Essential)
  • 40% - Ensures the smooth operation of the library building and its services during evening hours maintaining the same high level of service provided during daytime operations. Conducts hourly walkthroughs to identify and address any building equipment or safety issues ensuring a safe and functional environment for patrons and staff. Serves as the primary evening liaison with University Facilities and Campus Police for maintenance safety or operational concerns. Acts as the senior staff member on-site during evening operations ensuring consistent service standards and operational continuity. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Supports the OPS and Work Study Student Specialist by overseeing the performance and completion of evening student tasks. Provides on-the-job training guidance and mentorship for student assistants who primarily work evening shifts. Monitors task completion and work quality addressing performance concerns as needed. Communicates updates feedback and any issues related to student staffing or workflow to the OPS and Work Study Supervisors as well as the Circulation Manager to ensure alignment and consistency in library operations. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Performs additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the librarys operations services and special projects. Flexibly adapts to emerging needs ensuring continuity of service and contributing to the overall success of the library team. - (Essential)

  • Physical Requirements: Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat cold noise dust dirt chemicals etc. but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely results would be cuts bruises etc.
