Job Summary

INTRODUCTION

The University of Connecticut Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing is seeking applications to fill a 9-month non-tenure track Clinical Instructor position in the accelerated BS/CEIN track of the Prelicensure program. Under the direction of the Director of the Pre-Licensure program the Clinical Instructor may be required to teach courses at all campuses the accelerated BS/CEIN track runs with a primary duty station of Stamford campus. Faculty members may also be required to travel to clinical sites as needed. Clinical assignments may occasionally require participation on weekends and evenings and necessitate travel to alternate clinical sites or campuses beyond those originally assigned based on program requirements availability of clinical placements or specific learning opportunities. Other responsibilities include supervising pre-licensure students in clinical work each semester; apprising each student of their clinical performance on a regular basis; conducting evaluation of individual students clinical performance via impromptu meetings and planned evaluation conferences; evaluating students written work; and participating in campus laboratory and/or simulation teaching experiences as required.

In the area of teaching the successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate level development of innovative course assessments and mentoring of students in research outreach and professional development. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their teaching and/or service engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Candidates must have a masters degree in nursing.
  2. Current Connecticut RN license (valid as of date of hire which must be maintained and once available the multistate compact RN license).
  3. Three or more years of experience teaching undergraduate students in clinical settings.
  4. Experience evaluating student performance in clinical training settings.
  5. Demonstrated communication skills and interpersonal relationship strategies.
  6. Experience developing effective working relationships with hospitals clinics and other community partners.
  7. Experience evaluating preceptor performance including in settings outside ones own area of clinical expertise.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credentials.
  2. Three or more years of experience working as a medical/surgical RN.
  3. Experience managing and directing group clinical training for students in baccalaureate nursing programs.
  4. Experience working with students in an accelerated nursing entry program.
  5. Previous classroom teaching experience in an institution of higher education.
  6. Experience with a wide range of educational strategies including virtual and in-person simulation.
  7. Current experience with direct patient care in healthcare institutions and/or community settings.
  8. Experience with telehealth technologies.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a 9-month non-tenure-track position subject to annual review. Individuals may attain eligibility for multi-year contracts after the successful completion of a probationary year and five (5) subsequent one-year appointments. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Employment of successful candidates is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check. It is also contingent on the completion at time of employment and continued maintenance of required health indicators (MMR titers TB status Hepatitis B and others as required by clinical agencies) and CPR.
