The Quantum Computing and Technologies Department (QCT) at LRZ is a team of computer science and quantum physics specialists researching advancing and providing quantum computing technologies for local and international advanced computing communities. The QCT team provides scientific users with a broad portfolio of quantum resources and services including quantum simulators remote access to quantum hardware on-premise quantum systems development environment tools scientific consultancy and education/training. A main focus of this team is the re-search and development of integration pathways for quantum acceleration capabilities for next- generation high-performance computing (HPC) systems. Read more at .As a member of the LRZ Q-Crew youre in the drivers seat developing and providing new tools and methods working with cutting-edge hardware the User Enablement and Applications (UEA) group the needs and requirements of different user groups are mapped to the development of current and upcoming HPCQC services at LRZ to ensure to make constantly the best research tools available to our this environment you are pivotal for building unique solutions merging quantum and HPC workflows advancing the communitys research capabilities and in propelling Bavaria as a global quantum hotspot pushing the boundaries of innovative scientific discoveries achievable with quantum-accelerated computing.Your Role and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the research and technical activities on the integration of QC into our HPC ecosystem for use cases in the fields of quantum simulations optimization QML and more;
- Support the LRZ users in efficiently leveraging the novel services offered in the field of QC taking the role of solution architect for them;
- Participate to the research projects where LRZ is involved as a partner and help forge new collaborations in the field of QC;
- Interface with several teams within the organization for joint projects and contribute domain-specific expertise at the crossroads between QC HPC AI/ML and data management;
- Support reporting project progress publish outcomes and achievements and address the requests of project partners.
Basic Qualifications:
- A PhD in one of the following fields: natural sciences computational science physics engineering or mathematics;
- Good knowledge in quantum computing software and tools;
- Basic knowledge of HPC environment and system software;
- Good programming skills in a compiled programming language (C C Fortran) or an interpreted programming language (Python Julia etc.);
- Very good communication skills and collaborative spirit;
- Very good oral presentation and writing skills in English - German proficiency desirable;
- Strong desire to contribute your education experience energy and enthusiasm to help build a dynamic and progressive quantum computing team and share in its success.
Preferred Qualifications:
- For a grant project which the candidate is expected to contribute with a fraction of the working time to domain science knowledge in computational biology biophysics biochemistry or related fields is useful but not a must;
- Experience and interest in interacting with partners in grant projects and to align the activities towards the projects milestones and deliverables.
