Job Description:

The School of Theatre Dance (SOTD) in the College of the Arts (COTA) seeks a student assistant to provide scenic production assistance under supervision of the Technical Director. The Scenic Shop Assistant works closely with the Technical Director and has the opportunity to collaborate in scene shop operation and scenic fabrication including but not limited to: basic carpentry clerical organization and research scene shop organization cleaning tool and facility maintenance.

A successful candidate will have Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligibility; demonstrate a strong interest in live entertainment production and/or scenic construction possess strong organization skills; and work independently as well as collaboratively.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining shop tools by inspecting cleaning performing preventative maintenance and repairing.
  • Cleaning and organizing the scenic shop and support spaces.
  • Researching material costs and supplemental tool accessories as needed.
  • Organize and maintain the cleanliness of the scenic shop workspaces and theatre spaces.
  • Learning and practicing basic carpentry skills to build and modify platforms walls and other scenic elements.
  • Other duties as assigned by technical director.
Expected Salary:

$14 hourly

Minimum Requirements:
  • Federal Work Study award required must provide valid Award Summary Page confirming Federal Work Study Award over Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.
  • 10 hours available each week Monday through Friday between 9am-5pm.

  • Knowledge of SoTD scenic area production procedures
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Evidence of prioritization skills in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move 50 pounds.
  • Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances pluralism curiosity open discourse and the well-being of all.

SCHOOL OF THEATRE DANCE: The light-filled state-of-the-art Nadine McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion is home to the School of Theatre Dance (SoTD).
