Reports To: Parks Operations Manager
Status: Full Time Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Wage Scale: $29.43-$42.68 (Starting wage $29.43-$36.05 DOE)
Close Date: October 26th 2025
Hours: 40 hours per week (7AM-4:30PM with every other Friday off)


Position Summary:
The Assistant Parks Operations Manager (Passive) is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations within an assigned Parks Division unit. This position provides technical support to supervisory and management staff and performs skilled work related to the construction maintenance and repair of parks facilities buildings grounds and aquatic features.


Supervision Exercised:
Direct supervision of a team of assigned parks maintenance personnel.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assign coordinate and review the work of parks personnel and contractors.
Provide direction explain procedures and resolve day-to-day operational issues.
Recommend purchases of major parks equipment and supplies.
Evaluate unit operations and activities; recommend and implement improvements and modifications.
Establish schedules and methods for parks and open space maintenance and construction activities.
Perform high-level maintenance duties including turf management landscape construction tree care irrigation systems snow removal and facility winterization.
Apply insecticides herbicides and fertilizers using appropriate equipment and safety practices.
Perform preventive and routine maintenance on all parks vehicles and equipment.
Inspect evaluate and document the condition of parks facilities and amenities; report findings and recommend corrective actions.
Assist in budget preparation and administration including cost estimates justifications and expenditure monitoring.
Participate in staff selection training performance evaluations and disciplinary procedures as directed.
Use automated maintenance management systems to create schedule and assign work orders.
Respond to emergencies including weekends holidays and after-hours as required.
Participate in periodic on-call rotations.
Maintain a cooperative and professional work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
Tools equipment and maintenance techniques used in parks operations.
Safety procedures and regulations.

Skilled In:
Managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks.
Organizing and scheduling workloads to meet deadlines.
Monitoring equipment and mechanical systems for proper operation.


Ability To:
Follow oral and written instructions.
Lift and move objects weighing 50-75 pounds.
Work effectively in a team environment and communicate professionally with the public and staff.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand sit walk reach stoop kneel crouch and use hands to handle objects and tools. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Duties require sufficient mobility and coordination of multiple limbs. Vision requirements include close distance peripheral and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to generally loud noise or very loud noise (ex. large earth-moving equipment lawn mowers weed trimmers blowers etc.). Work is performed primarily in outdoor settings and in all weather conditions. Individuals may be exposed to hazards associated with lawn and building maintenance including smoke noxious odors fumes chemicals liquid chemicals solvents and oils. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions fumes or airborne particles.


Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
High school diploma or GED required.
Four (4) years of related grounds and facilities maintenance experience including one (1) year in a supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Utah Class D Drivers License.
Licensed Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator (State of Utah).

Off-Highway Vehicle Certification (within 30 days of hire).
Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) within 12 months of hire.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) within 12 months of hire.

Availability to work holidays weekends rotating 24-hour standby and occasional on-call duty.
