Job Summary

The salary for this role is 42858 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance).Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week however we actively support requests for flexible working. 

This role can be based at any of the following sites;  Culham Oxfordshire 

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data. 

The Role

As Plasma-neutral interactions physicist you will play a pivotal role is to provide physics insight into the atomic molecular and surface data relevant to tokamak boundary modelling and experiments. To contribute to the development and use of a New Edge Code being built at UKAEA specifically within the neutrals work package.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a well-documented database of physically consistent atomic molecular and surface data for use in the New Edge Code.
  • Propose improvements to existing neutral models used in boundary codes at UKAEA.
  • Report research findings in refereed journal articles as well as at internal meetings workshops and international conferences.
  • Support experimentalists by providing theoretical insight when requested.
  • Complete projects for validating numerical and theoretical results against MAST-U experiments.
  • Propose experiments and lead/contribute to research on MAST-U especially in the area of plasma-neutral interactions.

Qualifications :

Essential Requirements:

PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.

Proven ability to conduct independent research.

The post-holder must be a good team-player with an outward facing work-ethos as they will work closely with scientists around the world.

Good oral and written communications skills.

Enthusiasm initiative and ability to drive new research in modelling aspects of Exhaust physics
