The Pulmonary Function Manager is a licensed and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). This individual is proficient in performing all pulmonary function tests and should be familiar with Methacholine challenges and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Responsibilities include: laboratory quality control assurance (i.e. equipment maintenance calibration and collection of biologic control data drafting and monitoring adherence to laboratory policies and procedures); supervising educating and evaluating staff; overseeing research studies; functioning as liaison between Pulmonary Division and other divisions/departments; working with the Medical Director to expand testing capabilities; participating in education of fellows and rotating house staff/students. Possesses advanced computer skills and versatility with Excel and graphics necessary for the evaluation of laboratory and staff performance.
1. Performs all pulmonary function tests in accordance with established laboratory procedures and policies.
2. Directs laboratory quality assurance program in accordance with ATS (American Thoracic Society) criteria.
3. Supervises educates and evaluates pulmonary function laboratory staff providing constructive feedback and participating in disciplinary/recruitment activity as required.
4. Drafts revises and oversees staff compliance with laboratory policies and procedures as approved by the Medical Director.
5. Creates reports to facilitate evaluation of overall laboratory performance and that of individual Technologists.
6. Oversees all research studies conducted in the laboratory ensuring all protocols are properly adhered to.
7. Alerts covering Fellow/ Medical Director of urgent clinical situations in the laboratory.
8. Functions as liaison between Pulmonary Division and other divisions and departments to facilitate throughput and to maintain and foster relationships to increase laboratory visibility and market.
9. Works closely with Medical Director to acquire skills in technology to expand testing capability (i.e. high altitude simulation testing lung compliance testing etc.).
10. Contributes to education of rotating fellows residents and medical students as instructed by Medical Director.
11. Contributes to maintaining a safe comfortable environment for both patients and staff in the Pulmonary Function Laboratory.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Bachelors of Science degree Respiratory Therapy

5 years of clinical experience; minimum of 1 year of managerial

Name: Current New York State Respiratory Therapist License (RRT) New York State Education Department required
Issuing Agency: Certification (CPFT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care is mandatory within one year and a half of start date.
Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from American Heart Association
