We are seeking an Engagement Specialist / Recovery Coach.
Engagement Specialist
If assigned to Substance Use Engagement Center where individuals who are actively intoxicated and/or individuals who have recently used alcohol or other drugs can safely recover from acute intoxication will engage with the individuals accessing the center performing needs assessments completing recovery plans and referring to appropriate services. The SUD Engagement Center will provide alternatives to jail emergency departments and other emergent behavioral health services. This service will not provide long-term (more than 23 hours) housing medical detoxification psychiatry or residential substance abuse treatment however linking and coordination with these types of community resources will be provided. Additional resources provided will include access to showers and hygiene products food and clothing.
One of the three engagement specialists will have specialized training in working with the unique needs of women with a substance use disorder though collaboration and partnership with providers in the community. The engagement specialist identified for the womens specialty will both staff the Engagement Center as well as assist the Mel Trotter Outreach team.
If assigned to other areas of Mel Trotter ensure individuals understand their care assisting them with medical follow through building rapport and following up after appointments to encourage honest/accurate communication and reporting of symptoms/problems to the medical team. Determine which individuals may need to be directed to behavioral health screening and assisting them in access. Assist individuals towards harm reduction wellness and readiness for treatment.
Recovery Coach
The Recovery Coach will assist individuals in understanding and accessing substance use disorder services. The Recovery Coach will model competency in recovery and demonstrate on-going coping skills. The Recovery Coach will bring their lived experience and peer perspective to the Treatment and Support Court (multidisciplinary) Team.
When working as part of the Mobile Crisis Response Team: A Recovery Coach will work in conjunction with clinicians to provide crisis intervention services in homes shelters doctors offices and emergency departments schools treatment facilities Adult Foster Care Homes and other community locations. The coach will be responsible for completing seven-day follow-up contact with individuals who receive crisis intervention services from the Mobile Crisis Response Team.
This position is 16 hours a week 6:00 am to 2:00 pm every other Saturday and Sunday There are no on call or holiday requirements for this position. This assignment is in-person at Mel Trotter Ministries - 225 Commerce Ave SW Grand Rapids MI 49503.
