What you will do forHarris County Precinct 4 (HCP4)

Harris County Precinct 4 is seeking an immaculately organized professional and resilient Agenda Coordinator to support the daily work of the Policy and Innovation Division. The Policy team seeks to advance the mission of Precinct 4 through thorough research analysis development and implementation of public policy. Research and advocacy are grounded in principles of racial social and economic equity primarily focused on fields of access for affordable and quality healthcare criminal justice reform economic equity and opportunity voting rights affordable housing and environmental and climate justice.


The ideal candidate will be proactive in managing daily tasks organized in supporting the Chief of Policy and Innovation and the Director of Policy. The proven candidate will also possess a mastery of the administrative rhythm of Harris County Commissioners Court and be able to coordinate submission of Precinct 4 agenda items and the organization of materials for agenda briefings. Additionally the candidate should hold an understanding of government affairs and public policy. Finally the candidate will exercise professional discretion demonstrate situational awareness and always uphold the highest ethical standards. The ideal candidate will lead with heart hustle and higher standards in accordance with the Precincts mission to attract and retain top talent.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.
  • Attend meetings with the Chief Policy and Innovation Officer or Director of Policy.
  • Coordinate the submission of all Precinct 4 Requests for Court Action (RCA) offering training and support to other Divisions and ensuring high standards for all submitted materials.
  • Communicate on behalf of the Policy Division in regard to RCAs engaging the Office of Court Administration (OCA) and division Chiefs as needed to ensure collaboration and timely submission.
  • Prepare agendas for review by agenda review team.
  • Organize materials for Agenda Briefings in advance of each Commissioners Court ensuring high standards for memos and the Commissioners Briefing Binder.
  • Disseminate the results of Commissioners Court to all Precinct 4 divisions.
  • Communicate on behalf of the Policy and Innovation Division with division Chiefs to ensure follow-up on Commissioners Court items.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the goals of the Policy and Innovation Division and as mutually agreed upon to support the Agenda Coordinators career development.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelors degreein Public Policy Public Administration Political Sciencefrom an accredited college or university.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years experience as an administrative assistant or work in a similar role.

  • Three (3) years of experience in government affairs campaign work related government experience or other areas of policy analysis.

Education or experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Capacity to summarize research and analysis.
  • Can work in and facilitate cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to identify and apply best practices towards County policies and programs.
  • Meticulous organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask prioritize and manage large workloads in a fast-paced ever-changing environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications including but not limited to Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.

General Information

Position Type Salary and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Regular Full-time

  • Monday - Friday

  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours and on weekends

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • This position requires a significant amount of time outdoors and exposure to a variety of environmental and extreme weather conditions. This position also requires traveling to parks located throughout the precinct and at long distances. The ability to work outdoors during all seasons and to drive safely is essential. The ability to operate standard office equipment and software platforms is required.
  • Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools materials and equipment over rough terrain; climbing reaching and bending. Frequently to walk sit talk drive hear bend stoop twist and balance.
