Job Summary

LAWV is looking for a Regional Support Paralegal to be located in Charleston or Huntington to support the work of attorneys who serve as Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) for children in abuse and neglect cases in the West Virginia Circuit Courts.

Requirements

Must have an associates degree or a Paralegal Certificate and a minimum of 2 years experience or a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 4 years of experience with and knowledge of substantive legal issues affecting the poor and demonstrated knowledge of legal principles legal research methods legal terminology court systems and legal procedure.

Must have skills to use office technologies including case management publications data analysis and Excel software.

S(he) should have the ability to organize prioritize and work independently.

Good communication skills both written and oral are required.

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact constructively with diverse populations are also required.

S(he) must have a working understanding of providing legal services to clients in a multi-site office environment over a broad geographic area.

Must demonstrate ability to present statements of fact and law clearly and logically in written and oral form to a variety of audiences.

S(he) must have the ability to analyze situations accurately and to adopt an effective course of action and be able to multi-task effectively.

S(he) must demonstrate a high level of initiative effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently under minimal supervision in a way that encourages and facilitates cooperation pride trust and group identity.

Experience with project reporting and/or event planning logistics is desirable.

Some statewide and out of state travel required.

Some work outside of normal LAWV work hours.
