Idaho Forest Group is currently seeking a Forester Intern for the summer of 2026.
This Forestry internship is to gain practical on-the-job experience by working under the guidance of an experienced professional. The Forestry Intern will assist in Quality Control aspects of logging operations and Service projects on operational Timber Sales and Stewardship Agreements.
Essential Functions:
- Quality control on logging jobs with a written set of items to complete and document on each sale visit
- Quality inspection on Stewardship service items with written items to inspect and document
- Introduction to timber sale logging systems analysis and forest road construction
- Introduction to sawmilling processes
- Introduction timber sale appraisal process
- Introduction to global harvest planning process
- Introduction to open market log buying
- Assist the Resource team in FS/IDL contract administration
- Assist the Resource team in log buying
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Forestry or related field
- Must be a rising sophomore or higher minimum GPA of 3.0
- Ability to identify tree species
- Provide proof of enrollment in fall semester classes following the summer internship. Preference to students who are currently taking degree specific classes. Documentation must be provided prior to start date.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Be at least 18 years of age by the start of the internship.
- Commit to a minimum of 812 weeks of full-time work during the summer internship period.
- Adapt to various weather conditions loud conditions and airborne particles (sawdust) as we are working in a loud industrial sawmill!
- Ability to work at varying heights
- Have own housing and transportation none will be provided
- Pass a hair follicle drug test a physical and a background check.
Physical Requirements:
Move safely quickly and perform duties with repetitious movement. Sit and/or stand for shift reach with hands and arms stoop squat twist push and pull maintain balance bend at the waist kneel walk varying distances and climb stairs. Must be able to tolerate all weather elements loud conditions vibrations and airborne particles (sawdust).
