Job Summary

The Event Parking Attendant provides a welcoming first impression of the Science Museum of Minnesota Parking Ramp and ensures a successful parking experience for museum visitors contract customers event attendees and personnel. The position will collaborate with management team members and service providers to ensure all parking equipment is functional and well maintained. The Event Parking Attendant will also support caring for the ramp and vehicle entrances by performing trash removal cleaning and some winter maintenance activities as directed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Support event parking operations: perform routine opening and closing procedures maintain inventory of supplies ensure parking systems and equipment are functional assist customers with payment transactions and provide flagging and vehicle traffic control as needed.

Ensure all customer facing signage and pay stations accurately display current rate information.

Troubleshoot equipment and system issues and report outages to appropriate service providers.

Keep vehicle lanes roadways parking ramp and adjacent parking stairways free of obstructions and debris including trash removal and winter maintenance activities.

Interact professionally with customers clients and personnel by using clear and concise verbal and written communication.

Promote museum amenities memberships exhibits programs and events.

Keep personnel work areas clean and secure.

Escalate incidents to security personnel and management immediately.

Responsible for safe and secure operation of equipment used to perform primary and support duties which may include: TIBA Parking Systems shared work computer cellular phone two way radio hand held safety flags wheeled Brute broom & dustpan reach extender flat mop scoop shovel ice scraper and hand operated salt spreader.

Perform other supportive duties as apparent or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: At least one year of customer service experience in a public facing environment preferably outdoors.

Key Skills & Abilities:

Possess excellent verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of visitors clients and team members.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to maintain a high level of focus while monitoring traffic and in lane activities phone and radio calls and other disruptions for extended periods.

Must be capable of standing and/or walking for the entire duration of shift (typically 4 hours).

Preferred experience and certifications:

Fluency in language(s) other than English is valued.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work outside during periods of extreme heat and cold.

This position is very active and for extended periods of time requires sitting standing walking bending kneeling stooping and crouching during any given schedule shift.

Ability to push pull carry and lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Work Environment:

May be subject to traffic noise weather vehicle fumes and crowded accommodations.

Ability to walk frequently during high peak demand and navigate through crowded parking facility.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends frequently.

This is an occasional position. Hourly rate is $17.50/hour
