GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Oversees the management and organization of the divisions fleet of vehiclesas well as state and county federal excess fire apparatuses ensuring vehicles are well maintained compliant with regulations and utilized efficiently. Responsibilities typically include scheduling maintenance and repairs coordinating vehicle acquisitions and disposals county excess fire apparatus repairs and parts/supplies. These duties ensure that the fleet program manager effectively manages Wyoming State Forestry Divisions vehicle and equipment fleet to support the forestry operations while maximizing efficiency safety and compliance with regulations.Plan assign & supervise 4 maintenance staff personneland 2 program manager staff who oversee the warehouse and the federal firefighter property programs. Manage all fleet vehicle repairs county excess fire apparatus repairs and parts/supplies. Maintain a parts and shop supply inventory. Monitor all budgetary items for fleet shop & count accounts. Supportsthe fire program in several aspects of suppression supervision supplies & training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.


  • Plan assign & supervise the work of 4 Heavy Mechanics who are responsible for the support and maintenance of 80 agency fleet vehicles/pieces of equipment and 300 pieces of FEPP and FFP strategically located in Wyomings 23 counties & cooperates with out-of-state agencies. Provides Work Direction for several County mechanics.

  • Supervise 1 warehouse assistant supervisor and 1 federal excess personal property program and firefighter property program manager

  • Stays within established budgets for the Biennial General Fund budget as well as the Biennial Statutory 537 account.

  • Develops specifications for new fire packages and shop equipment to be ordered or fabricated.

  • Performs research and analysis on energy and fuel-efficient shop equipment and vehicles as well as fabrication of fire packages. Emergency equipment to be placed on fleet vehicles and crew carriers.

  • Developing and implementing safety protocols for fleet operations as well as providing training for drivers and operators on safe vehicle handling and equipment operations. Manages equipment and compliance inspections for quality control as well as tool and parts inventory and maintenance scheduling

  • Coordinates placement and replacement of equipment fleet vehicles FEPP and FFP with agency state and local cooperators


Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Supervises total operation of the mechanics shopand federal firefighter equipment programs.

  • Assists with the evaluation of equipment in the shop area for the equipment budget.

  • Gives guidance and counsel to employees in order to meet goals.

  • Researches changes in technology and educates subordinates about new applications and procedures.

  • Facilitates dialog with other programs to ensure efficiency.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of fire apparatus maintenance repair and troubleshooting.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelors Degree (typically in Management)
Experience:

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics or Fleet Management)


Certificates Licenses Registrations:

Ability to obtain a CDL

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Needs to meet appropriate physical requirements for Wildland Fire qualification
