Job Description

The Role: The Safety Representative is responsible for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice instructing and coaching to site/functional operations. The position is responsible for assisting Site Leadership with implementation maintenance and compliance with all GM Workplace Safety and regulatory requirements.

In addition the safety representative will interface regularly and directly with the plant launch team on site the local joint safety team all the Central Manufacturing Engineering and Construction teams /Contractors installing new plant machinery and processes equipment. The position will participate in equipment buyoffs at OEM build sites as required and will ensure contractors are adhering to General Motors Safety practices while on the premises.

What Youll Do:

  • This role is accountable for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice mentoring and coaching to site/functional operations.

  • Analyzing Workplace Safety data and communicating results and trends along with continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Assessing site Workplace Safety performance and conformance to requirements.

  • Managing the site as Subject Matter Expert on Workplace Safety requirements.

  • Assist with incident investigation and corrective action development.

  • Research and provide technical information or direction to engineering support groups.

  • Periodic monitoring and evaluation of safe work of contractors working on site.

  • Summarize critical issues and escalate to leadership when required for support.

  • Flexible work schedule for inspections especially during non-production down times

  • Working in partnership with the local site leadership to support Workplace Safety culture.

  • Work alongside joint safety team to maintain the Workplace Safety System and achieve site goals.

Your Skills & Abilities:

  • BA/BS degree in safety or related field or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.

  • Experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field

  • Available to work alternative shift schedules including weekends& holidays.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge:

  • Safety Certifications (e.g. CSP)

  • Experience working in a union environment
