Job Summary
Since we opened our doors in 2009 the world of commerce has evolved immensely and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale we saw sellers stymied by disparate outmoded products and tools that wouldnt work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated omnichannel solutions to help sellers sell online manage inventory offer buy now pay later functionality book appointments engage loyal buyers and hire and pay staff. Across it all weve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper increase order sizes and compete at a larger scale.
Today we are a partner to sellers of all sizes large enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations sellers just starting as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. The Role
As Square has grown weve continued to add features to support a diverse seller base. Our larger sellers often have different expectations and requirements than our smaller sellers but Square takes the time to meet sellers where they are making it feel like it just works whether youre a soap seller at a farmers market or operating the Chase Center and everyone in between.
The Modes & Settings team strives to ensure that sellers of all sizes can configure their point of sale without being overwhelmed by complexity. The team builds a framework that enables feature teams to easily create configuration options for new features.
Were seeking a Senior Android Engineer who can work collaboratively with other team members to tackle complex challenges and build frameworks that support all Android feature development at Square. As a member of the Modes & Settings team youll serve as a technical representative for systems that handle intricate workflows.
You Will
Design and lead the technical implementation of major features that advance POS configuration workflows in collaboration with Product and Design partners.
Drive investigations into complex technical challenges partnering across teams and organizations to deliver robust scalable solutions.
Mentor other engineers in Android best practices modern architectural patterns and high-quality code standards.
Contribute to the long-term technical direction and evolution of our Android codebase.
Maintain and improve our testing infrastructure deployment pipelines and monitoring processes to ensure reliability and velocity.
Leverage AI tools to accelerate the impact of both yourself and your team.
You Have
Bachelors degree (or equivalent practical experience) and 8 years of experience in Android software development.
Strong technical problem-solving skills with a proven ability to debug and resolve complex technical issues.
Demonstrated experience building and shipping substantial features in production Android applications.
Deep understanding of Android architecture patterns lifecycle management and performance optimization.
Proven track record of mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership within a team.
Familiarity with payment systems and point of sale (POS) workflows is valuable but not required.
