Start: Spring 2026
Workload: Full-time (30 ECTS)
Language: English
Number of students: 2
Thesis Topic
We are looking for two masters students to explore hardware-accelerated raytracing in the context of radio communication and radar systems. The goal is to improve the accuracy of multipath modeling in large-scale simulations. These enhanced simulations can then be used to train machine learning models for signal interception and tracking with applications in civil radar communication systems and defense technologies.
Thesis Tasks
You will work collaboratively to:
- Investigate existing raytracing techniques and their applicability to radio wave propagation.
- Explore hardware acceleration (e.g. GPU-based computing) for large-scale simulations.
- Develop a prototype or simulation framework for modeling multipath effects.
- Evaluate the realism and performance of the simulation.
- Suggest how the results can be used to train ML models for signal tracking.
- You will be supported by a dedicated supervisor and have access to AFRYs expertise in product development and signal processing.
Qualifications :
We are looking for two students in their final year of a relevant masters program. You can apply individually or together with a partner.
- Suggested master programs: Engineering Physics Embedded Systems Computer Science with focus on Graphics or High-Performance Computing Electrical Engineering Data Science with specialization in Signal Processing or Electronics Systems Control and Robotics
Required qualifications:
- Strong interest in computer graphics parallel computing and hardware acceleration.
- Solid programming skills (e.g. C Python CUDA or similar).
- Analytical mindset and ability to work independently and in a team.
- Good communication skills in English (spoken and written).
- You are enrolled at a Swedish university and can work primarily from AFRYs office in Solna.
