Job Summary

TITLE: School Crossing Guard - 5 hours per week approximately 6:30am-7:30am daily when school is in session. SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal the School Crossing Guard is responsible for safeguarding and regulating traffic at assigned school crossing guard stations and for the safe movement of children when exiting vehicles and buses at the school drop-off location or crossing roadways and parking lots at individual school and school campus entrances and DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Be at the crossing guard station on time and during assigned work times or call for a substitute in advance when you cannot be present for children and adults to cross safely in parking lots intersections and across public roadways stopping traffic as necessary or directing traffic movement using signs flags or hand or control vehicular or pedestrian traffic on school property (parking lots and walkways). Provide effective traffic control while wearing proper crossing guard attire and utilizing proper crossing guard aids when crossing children and adults. Write down and submit to the police department any motor vehicle and driver information related to behaviors which could result in unsafe conditions at crossing guard traffic and crossing rules and other information to students and may involve substituting at various QUALIFICATIONS:Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of traffic laws relating to pedestrian right-of-way speed limits in a school-crossing area and elements of traffic safety applying to motorists and -based competencies include patience and sensitivity interacting with parents and -based competencies include being tactful but firm with public related to both foot and motor vehicle traffic; analyzing and effectively reacting to various unexpected situations and emergencies; working outside in all types of weather conditions; working morning and afternoon shifts during school start and end times; giving and following instruction; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with children parents school officials and law enforcement; remaining calm and using sound DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; position oneself to direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic; move and traverse swiftly for short distances; communicate; close vision distance vision and peripheral vision. WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed outdoors under variable weather conditions including extremes of hot and cold temperatures. Employee is exposed to moderate traffic noise and the hazards associated with stopping/directing traffic and assisting children in crossing roads.
