Job Summary
An established and academically focused independent school in Barnet is looking for a thoughtful Early Career Teacher (ECT) of English to begin their career journey in January 2026 within its successful senior phase.
Responsibilities
- Teach stimulating English Language and Literature lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 with a clear focus on achieving strong GCSE outcomes.
- Integrate fully into the supportive English department focusing on excellence in foundational literary and language skills.
- Engage with weekly one-to-one mentoring sessions and observation cycles designed to accelerate pedagogical skill development.
- Maintain comprehensive records of student progress and actively participate in faculty meetings and training.
- Take full advantage of the ECT reduced timetable to manage workload effectively and prepare high-quality resources.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) attained by December 2025 (or currently in your first year of induction - ECT1) and a strong academic background in English Literature or Language.
- Evidence of successful placements in secondary schools and a clear understanding of the ECT period.
- Seeking a highly articulate and professional English Teacher focused on academic depth and intellectual engagement.
- The desire to contribute beyond the classroom through co-curricular activities such as debating or school journalism.
