A fast-growing electrical contractor based in South Amboy NJ is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all financial operations and support the companys rapid expansion. This is a key leadership role for a strategic hands-on financial professional with a strong background in construction accounting. Electrical contracting experience is preferred but prior experience within the construction industry is a must.
The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of construction financial management excellent communication skills and the ability to build scalable processes to support continued growth.
Requirements
Oversee all accounting and financial functions including general ledger job cost accounting AP/AR payroll and month-end closings.
Manage financial reporting and forecasting ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and construction industry standards.
Lead budgeting cash flow management and financial planning to support operational and strategic initiatives.
Implement and maintain effective internal controls accounting policies and procedures.
Oversee project cost tracking work in progress (WIP) schedules billings and change order processes.
Collaborate closely with project management teams to monitor project financial performance and address issues proactively.
Manage external audits tax filings bonding requirements and banking relationships.
Evaluate and optimize accounting software reporting tools and workflows to increase efficiency as the company scales.
Build and lead a growing accounting team fostering a culture of accuracy accountability and continuous improvement.
Provide strategic input to ownership and leadership teams regarding financial health risks and growth opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 710 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
Construction industry experience is required; electrical contracting experience strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of job cost accounting WIP reporting contract billings and construction project financials.
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field; CPA or CMA designation a plus.
Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems (e.g. Viewpoint Sage Foundation etc.) and advanced Excel skills.
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-growing entrepreneurial environment.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
