Controller

A fast-growing electrical contractor based in South Amboy NJ is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all financial operations and support the companys rapid expansion. This is a key leadership role for a strategic hands-on financial professional with a strong background in construction accounting. Electrical contracting experience is preferred but prior experience within the construction industry is a must.

The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of construction financial management excellent communication skills and the ability to build scalable processes to support continued growth.

Requirements

• Oversee all accounting and financial functions including general ledger job cost accounting AP/AR payroll and month-end closings.
  

• Manage financial reporting and forecasting ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and construction industry standards.
  

• Lead budgeting cash flow management and financial planning to support operational and strategic initiatives.
  

• Implement and maintain effective internal controls accounting policies and procedures.
  

• Oversee project cost tracking work in progress (WIP) schedules billings and change order processes.
  

• Collaborate closely with project management teams to monitor project financial performance and address issues proactively.
  

• Manage external audits tax filings bonding requirements and banking relationships.
  

• Evaluate and optimize accounting software reporting tools and workflows to increase efficiency as the company scales.
  

• Build and lead a growing accounting team fostering a culture of accuracy accountability and continuous improvement.
  

• Provide strategic input to ownership and leadership teams regarding financial health risks and growth opportunities.
  

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 710 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
  

• Construction industry experience is required; electrical contracting experience strongly preferred.
  

• Strong knowledge of job cost accounting WIP reporting contract billings and construction project financials.
  

• Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field; CPA or CMA designation a plus.
  

• Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems (e.g. Viewpoint Sage Foundation etc.) and advanced Excel skills.
  

• Proven ability to thrive in a fast-growing entrepreneurial environment.
