Experience as a painter totaling at least five years
A high school diploma or equivalent
Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made)
A valid drivers license

Purpose and Objectives of the Position:
Performs skilled/full journey level duties under limited supervision to prepare paint stain and finish interior and exterior surfaces in the school district. An incumbent in this position will follow generally standardized operating policies and procedures. On occasion he/she will have to utilize discretion ingenuity and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job. Provides necessary information on the proper uses of painting tools and materials.
Special Skills Knowledge Abilities:
SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing surfaces for painting; applying finishes; mixing and matching paints; operating tools and equipment related to painting; planning and managing projects; and maintaining accurate records while adhering to safety practices and handling hazardous materials.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios; read technical information; compose a variety of documents; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: surface preparation techniques; types and uses of paints stains and finishes; methods of application; safe handling and disposal of materials; blueprint reading; and knowledge of industry safety standards and procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather collate and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related working with others problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working independently and with interruptions.
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organizations services.
Essential Job Functions:
Prepares surfaces (e.g. cleaning sanding patching taping priming etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper adhesion and a high-quality finish.
Applies paint varnish stains sealers and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes rollers or sprayers for the purpose of protecting and enhancing surfaces.
Identifies surface defects and selects appropriate repair method or materials for the purpose of restoring surfaces prior to painting.
Mixes and matches paints stains and finishes to achieve desired color and consistency.
Maintains painting tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring safe operating condition and availability.
Performs routine and preventive maintenance of painted surfaces to ensure longevity and clean appearance.
Prepares documentation (e.g. work orders maintenance logs reports material usage etc.) for the purpose of recording activities and updating records.
Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of projects and provides technical support and training as needed.
Inspects completed work for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district standards and quality expectations.
Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items to complete jobs.
Responds to emergency painting or surface restoration needs during and after hours as needed and/or assigned.
Transports materials tools and equipment to and from job sites as needed.
Performance Responsibilities General Administration:
Ability to maintain interior and exterior finishes of school buildings in top condition.
Ability to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner and handle other tasks as assigned.
Ability to operate all equipment and machinery appropriately as necessary.
Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions:
Requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects or materials.
Ability to manually lift a maximum of 60 pounds.
Requires stooping kneeling crawling bending turning climbing balancing and reaching.
Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
Must work in and around dust fumes and odors associated with paints solvents and cleaning products.
General Responsibilities:
Ability to assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.
Ability to assist in promoting the safety health and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
Ability to maintain a high standard of safety cleanliness and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
Ability to perform maintenance repair and installation in connection with:
Ability to move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
Ability to work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
Ability to act as a substitute custodian when necessary.
Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
Keep current on new information innovative ideas and techniques.
Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative courteous and timely manner.
Ability to keep information and records confidential.
Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
