POSITION SUMMARY: Besides the VP for Finance/CFO the Controller is the highest ranking financial position in the University. The Controller works closely with the VPF/CFO to create the annual spending plan of the University (i.e. budgets) and manage the institutions finances. The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the University including banking relationships cash management financial accounting and reporting spending approvals accounts and student receivable accounts payable and cashiering. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Supervise the Universitys Offices of Budget Accounting Operations and Fiscal Management and its functions including budgeting accounting and financial reporting financial analysis accounts payable accounts receivable and cashier.
- Oversee the Universitys annual spending plan including budget reporting department variances and spending approvals.
- Ensure periodic training and communication to departmental budget managers to assist them in managing their budgets.
- Manage cash flow including funding/drawing from investments and use of the operating line of credit.
- Serve as the Universitys compliance officer in matters pertaining to the Internal Revenue Service and the institutions 501c(3) status.
- Maintain the Universitys financial handbook.
- Oversee all required governmental financial reporting.
- Financial management of the institutions grants including submission of applications reconciliations of spending and receiving reimbursement for expenditures.
- Manage the annual independent financial audits and single audits.
- Along with the VPF/CFO serve as a primary contact for the Universitys banking relationships.
- Work with the Information Technology department to maintain and improve internal and external financial reporting systems of the University.
- Work with the Admissions Financial Aid Records Student Life and Information Technology departments to ensure accuracy of student accounts.
- Identify needs for development and training of Budget Accounting Operations and Fiscal Management staff.
- Serve as a resource to the Board Finance Committee and be the lead staff liaison to the Audit Committee.
- Serve as a member of the 403(b) Committee and Safety/Risk Management Committee.
- Attend Foundation Board meetings and serve as a resource to their Investment & Finance Counsel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelors Degree in Accounting MBA preferred.
- At least five years of experience in higher education accounting budgeting and financial management or equivalent.
- Familiarity with IRS regulations for non-profit organizations.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly firmly and tactfully.
- Ability to work well with people in a challenging environment.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Leadership qualities.
- Understanding of and commitment to VUSCs mission and philosophy.
SALARY: Full-time position 6 month assignment Potential for Permanent Placement: This position is being offered as a temporary assignment anticipated to last approximately six months. At the conclusion of the temporary term the position may transition to a permanent role based on organizational needs and performance. The individual selected for the temporary assignment will be welcome to apply for the permanent position should it become available. Please note that while strong performance during the temporary assignment will be taken into consideration conversion to a permanent position is not guaranteed. $123200 to $150600 (Annual) Placement within the salary range is commensurate upon education and experience.
