About That with Andrew Chang is looking for a talented journalist and an exceptional writer to join the team for one year.

We live in a news ecosystem rife with misinformation and audience mistrust.

Were looking for a critical thinker someone who understands how to unpack the top news stories of the day in fact-driven visually stimulating video.

The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the ability to cut through the noise matching todays news cycle to be there for the audience when they need us. They will be armed with deep research skills and a clear understanding of how CBCs journalistic standards and practices inform our work.

About Thats stories are both domestic and international covering a wide range of the biggest issues resonating with our audience spanning everything from the economy to geopolitics to breakdowns of disasters -- natural and otherwise. You need to be willing and able to meet the audiences need for what each days news cycle brings.

You need to know how to frame stories that appeal to Canadians in their 30s

You have a proven track record of capturing the hosts voice in your storytelling and incorporating feedback into your work.

Youre a self-starter an open-minded and collaborative colleague and you thrive in a high-pressure dynamic newsroom.

You care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives opinions and experiences. You live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

Overtime work is very possible because of how the news changes the stories we are working on.

Key Tasks:

  • Contributes ideas for program content; pursues and collects research and information.

  • Gather material from a variety of carefully developed sources and organize it in a clear and concise manner.

  • Provide detailed analysis that will be used to enhance the understanding of the listener or viewer. Participates in screenings/vetting processes.

  • Prepare and source line by line fact checking to high standard

  • Participates in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.

  • As required performs the following tasks:

    • any task of an Associate Producer and Reporter / Editor; structure and organize and co-ordinate on-line content; edit encode digitize and package audio and video material for a website using appropriate technologies; ensure the journalism adheres to CBCs Journalistic Standards and Practices

You are responsible for providing an updated resumé and highlighting the qualifications and skills required for this position.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Degree in journalism or equivalent experience is considered to be an asset for this role.

  • Minimum of five years relevant experience during which the candidate would have gained exposure to investigative journalism

  • Exceptional research skills

  • Proven track record pitching researching and delivering content

  • Broad experience in all aspects of story production including conducting pre-interviews research fact checking and ensuring stories meet CBCs Journalistic Standards and Procedures.

  • Exceptional and creative writing ability

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity and connection to diverse communities.

  • Excellent editorial judgment and critical-thinking skills.

  • Creative approach and commitment to innovative story-telling across platforms.

  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment and with tight deadlines without sacrificing creativity or quality.

  • Ability to take critical feedback and incorporate it into the work.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal including the ability to clearly explain concepts to peers.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work patterns and methods.

  • Independent and self-motivated combined with the ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Proven track record of ensuring a diversity of voices is reflected in storytelling. Contributes to the diversity of perspectives on the team.

  • High level of organization and productivity.

  • Able to work flexible hours.
