This is a USDA grant-funded postdoctoral position that will be based at the University of Florida - Everglades Research and Education Center (EREC) in Belle Glade Florida. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and conducting a long-term field and watershed-scale hydrological and geospatial research network within the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) in South Florida. Primary methodologies to be implemented in the research include but are not limited to field monitoring using sensors (water level recorders automated weather sensors water quality sensors) and direct sampling (soil and water samples auto-samplers flow measurements vegetation samples). The candidate will be responsible for coordinating logistics of field and laboratory data collection and various aspects of core lab functions (sensor design and troubleshooting field safety equipment ordering lab safety data quality control and management). The project entails a significant amount of hydrologic modeling; thus experience working with the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) are desired. The applicant should have a valid drivers license and anticipate statewide travel. Other key responsibilities include team coordination and methods development in aid of team activities. The development and maintenance of effective working relationships with students and other postdocs partners in industry and agencies and the public will ensure success in this position. The Soil Water & Nutrient Management Lab is committed to supporting work-life balance and creating an environment that promotes and supports a welcoming student staff faculty and overall workforce within the University. Background Information

The School of Natural Resources and Environment is an interdisciplinary unit housed in IFAS and managed by several colleges on campus. UF/IFAS employs nearly 4500 people which includes approximately 990 salaried faculty and 1400 permanent support personnel located in Gainesville and throughout the state. IFAS one of the nations largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations is administered by a Vice President and four deans: the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences the Dean for Extension and Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine. UF/IFAS also engages in cooperative work with Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

Required Qualifications:
  • A PhD (foreign equivalent acceptable) in the field of Soil Science Agronomy Agriculture and Biological Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.

  • Candidates must also have a commitment to UF core values.
Preferred:

The project entails evaluating farming conservation practices as it relates to soil and water quality. Experience in the following areas would be preferred.

  • Soil health indexing
  • Hydrologic modeling
  • Geospatial tools
