Job Title: Workday HCM Functional Consultant
Location: Remote (EST hours preferred)
Duration: 12 Month Contract
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Workday HCM Functional Consultant with a strong background in Core HR Payroll Benefits Reporting and Integrations. The consultant will be the primary point of contact between business users (HR Payroll Benefits teams) and the technical Workday support team.
The ideal candidate will have end-to-end Workday implementation and support experience in a college or higher education environment with a clear understanding of academic HR structures unionized payrolls benefit eligibility rules and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Responsibilities
- Act as a Workday HCM Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Core HR Payroll and Benefits.
- Gather and document business requirements translate them into functional design specifications.
- Configure and maintain Workday business processes security roles and data structures.
- Support bi-weekly/monthly payroll cycles - validating calculations resolving discrepancies and coordinating with HR/Finance teams.
- Manage employee lifecycle transactions such as hiring job changes terminations and benefit enrollments.
- Develop and maintain Workday reports and dashboards to support HR operations and compliance.
- Analyze and resolve system issues perform impact analysis for new releases and manage regression testing.
- Provide end-user support and training including documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Lead functional testing user acceptance testing (UAT) and coordinate defect resolution.
- Partner with business units to continuously improve system processes and data quality.
Technical/Integration Responsibilities
- Collaborate with technical teams on Workday integrations (EIBs Core Connectors Workday Studio REST/SOAP APIs).
- Review and validate integration requirements perform data mapping and testing.
- Work with IT to ensure data integrity between Workday and external systems (e.g. Finance Time Tracking Benefits vendors).
- Monitor scheduled integrations troubleshoot errors and coordinate fixes.
- Create and maintain custom reports and calculated fields to meet operational needs.
- Participate in Workday bi-annual release reviews assessing new features and testing their impact on existing configuration.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5 years of hands-on Workday HCM functional experience.
- Strong knowledge of Core HR Payroll Benefits and Reporting.
- Good understanding of Workday security business process configuration and data management.
- Familiarity with Workday Integrations (EIBs Workday Studio Core Connectors or related).
- Demonstrated experience working in or supporting higher education or university clients - mandatory.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with HR Payroll Benefits and IT teams.
- Excellent analytical problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong documentation testing and change management discipline.
Nice to Have
- Workday certification in HCM Payroll or Benefits.
- Experience with Workday Prism Analytics or Workday Extend.
- Exposure to unionized or faculty/staff payroll environments.
- Understanding of compliance and reporting standards in higher education.
