R.W. Tomlinson is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Business Analyst to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Controller the successful candidate will support the Environmental & Infrastructure teams. The Business Analyst will be responsible for creating and maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards to drive business growth in addition to implementing tools to ensure billing accuracy and profitability. This position plays a vital role in driving process and performance improvement initiatives across the divisions while supporting our commitment to building trusted customer relationships and upholding the highest operational standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain KPIs dashboards and reports to monitor business performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Analyze financial and operational data to provide actionable insights and support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure data integrity across systems and coach team members on the importance of accurate data in business processes.
- Collaborate with SAP/AI teams to extract integrate and visualize data from multiple sources.
- Support the Senior Controller with financial reporting performance analysis and monthly presentations to senior leadership.
- Work closely with project management and estimation teams throughout the project lifecycle to support costing budgeting and change management.
- Build and maintain detailed cost models and tools to support quoting and major tender submissions.
- Monitor project and business unit profitability including analysis of earned value unit costs and trend data.
- Review completed projects and provide historical cost data to improve future budgeting and forecasting.
- Train project and operational teams on costing tools concepts and SAP-based financial systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Commerce Finance Economics Engineering or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Proven experience in data analysis pricing strategies and account or project management.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and cost engineering skills (e.g. earned value estimation cost analysis).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level) and Power BI.
- Experience with ERP systems preferably SAP; familiarity with estimation software (e.g. Hard Dollar TPL) is an asset.
- Understanding of project scheduling and related software (e.g. Primavera P6 MS Project).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate across departments.
- Self-motivated with a focus on continuous improvement and achieving organizational goals.
