Job Description


Are you the Whānau Navigator we are looking for

  • Permanent position with the potential for 2x part time or 1 x full time role.
  • Whānau centred approach.
  • South Waikato based role with travel required to various services around the wider Waikato regions.


We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team as Whānau Navigator within our Mātauranga Ake Team.


As a Whānau Navigator you will play a pivotal role in supporting whānau and tamariki within Central Kids. This role is dedicated to linking whānau to a variety of services and supports that will meet their holistic needs with a strong emphasis on fostering strong foundations for educational engagement and outcomes.
The role focuses on promoting the well-being and safety of tamariki supporting their educational and social development and working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies.
You will work towards this goal through the delivery of a range of intervention strategies designed to meet desired whānau aspirations.


The position requires a compassionate and empathetic individual with the following experience/attributes:


  • A certificate in the Health/Wellbeing sector or the social sector.
  • Knowledge and experience with Whānau Ora concepts and delivery.
  • An understanding of Tikanga Māori and te reo Māori.
  • Credibility with the greater Māori community government and NGO services.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of legislation relevant to Child Protection Tenancy and Ministry of Social Development is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience with case management and working with whānau.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Tech savvy with the ability to quickly learn and use our client management system.
  • Experienced with using Microsoft Suite.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Central North Island region.
  • Hold a NZ full driver licence.
  • Be entitled to work in NZ.
  • Be willing to complete a Safety Check in line with the requirements of the Childrens Act 2014.


The ideal applicant for this role will be based within Hamilton/Tokoroa/Te Awamutu to enable travel within the geographical region that support is required for.


The successful applicant will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from our resident Mātauranga Ake Manager.
