About the organisation

He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Maori organisation who have been supporting whānau and Hapori for over 30 years. He Waka Tapu works to increase the health and wellbeing of Whānau.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive person with an understanding of the concept of Whānau Ora. You will take a role in an important service to guide and encourage Whānau with their plans to achieve autonomous wellbeing. This role is part of a larger team in Ōtautahi.

About the role

The Whānau Ora Kaitūwhana position is one that will support whānau Māori within the community to make positive changes in their lives and the lives of their whānau. You will engage in a holistic way using a whānau ora model of working to assess needs and aspirations. Championing and guiding whānau nwith solid skills that effectively build skills and confidence improving welbeing outcomes for whānau.

You will contribute to the prevention and reduction in vulnerability and harm for whaiora whānau and hapori and support the reduction in the number of whānau that experience hardship and adverse life outcomes.

Skills and experience

  • Minimum of Level 4 health qualification is preferred
  • Experience working with Māori and within a kaupapa Māori environment.
  • Experience in establishing effective working relationships with individuals their whānau and other key stakeholders.
  • Appropriate skills in helping people
  • Commitment and/or experience working in a Whānau Ora model.
  • Full and clean NZ driver licence
