Directs coordinates and manages daily depot operations at south-end depots (Seward Whittier/Portage/Whistle stops Anchorage and Talkeetna) with a strong focus on safety and customer service across baggage handling depot and gift shop operations. Oversees depot employees including baggage handlers station agents and giftshop staff. Ensures safe and efficient handling of passenger luggage and high-quality customer interactions. Works with the Director Guest Services and Guest Services Managers on coordination of all passenger train and depot logistical needs.Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage baggage handlers station agents and depot operations staff on the south-end Anchorage Seward and Talkeetna. Conducts training for baggage handling staff and depot operations staff. Monitors operations and ensures appropriate staffing scheduling and efficiencies are maintained. Assists in the development and implementation of a system-wide approach for depot operations and the handling of passenger baggage including capital plans to support construction and upgrades to the physical plant and acquisition of additional baggage capacity. Based on customer satisfaction data collaborates with staff members to correct noted deficiencies in service and performance. Collaborate with Manager Northend Guest Service on recruiting training and performance standard along the railbelt.
Works with Manager Guest Services to coordinate all aspects of the passenger trains with Transportation and Mechanical Departments as well as contractors and tour companies.
Delivers quality control training programs for gift shop associates station agents baggage handlers and other key personnel in conjunction with managers for contractors.
FACTOR 1: Technical and Operational Knowledge
Must have a strong understanding of quality systems and policies product development and dining processes. Must be detail oriented and well organized. Must have knowledge/skills in quality control systems and procedures and auditing skills. Experience in wholesale or retail sales and marketing is required. Experience in developing and presenting training materials is preferred. Knowledge of on-board operations and the tourism industry is preferred. Must have good analytical and problem-solving skills. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have good working knowledge of Windows based computer programs such as Excel Word and Access. Must have a thorough understanding of the principles and practices of supervision. Must have strong team facilitation coaching and mentoring skills. Must possess a valid drivers license.
FACTOR 2: Analytical Skills and Impact
Must be able to analyze product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product. Ability to analyze work methods and procedures for the purpose of developing and implementing work process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness for depot and baggage operations. Must possess the ability to problem solve and exercise judgment over a variety of broadly defined duties. Must be able to formulate quality control objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals. Must have good analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to develop comprehensive annual quality operating plans ensuring guest needs are built into key processes from concept to delivery. Must be able to develop and deliver effective training programs. Must possess leadership skills and be a positive role model. Must demonstrate the ability to recognize and respond effectively to unexpected situations and tight deadlines. Must be able to adapt to changing priorities and work situations.
FACTOR 3: Supervision and Control
Oversees a supervisor in Seward; Baggage Handlers in Anchorage; Station Agents in Talkeetna and Seward; Gift Shop Sales Associates; Gift Shop Inventory Coordinator and Gift Shop Inventory Technician and will be responsible for the daily activities of the named positions. Trains and monitors all staff under his/her span of control. Has responsibility for the development and oversight of the passenger depot capital and operating budgets.
FACTOR 4: Communication
Works with the baggage handlers gift shop personnel ARRC management personnel contract catering representatives and the general public as well as train crews contractors and customers. The purpose of communications is to inform and instruct workers on proper processes and procedures solicit information investigate problem areas and complaints and communicate resolutions. May be required to speak publicly providing commentary to guests on board trains.
FACTOR 5: Working Conditions
Work is sedentary; however on occasion incumbent may have to lift up to 25 lbs. Low chance of any hazards or injuries. Minimal physical effort is required; however the incumbent will be working on-board trains or depots for 12 to 14 hours per day during passenger season. Must be able to handle travel and willing to stay away from home overnight regularly during summer and occasionally during winter.

Preferred:
-Bachelors Degree in Business or Hospitality Management
