What Youll Do
As a Database Administrator you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining databases in support of a national security mission to maintain the safety security and effectiveness of the United States nuclear weapons stockpile.
Working as part of the IT organizations IT Operations team the database administrator position offers you the ability to install manage and maintain database systems supporting business production manufacturing and engineering organizations. This role will collaborate with application developers system administrators identity management administrators and business stakeholders to support critical systems and optimize database performance.
This is a limited telework position. Due to the nature of the work and systems supported the majority of time will be spent onsite.
Key responsibilities include:
- Install configure upgrade and patch Oracle and MS SQL Server databases
- Monitor database performance troubleshoot issues and implement tuning strategies
- Manage database backup recovery high availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Maintain database security
- Configure Oracle Enterprise Manager to help with performance tuning patching and maintain RMAN backups and database exports.
- Create and work Oracle Service Requests (SRs) with Oracle Technical Support as needed
- Tuning SQL Server Databases
- Ensure databases meet internal security standards and external compliance requirements such as STIG baselines
- Support audits and provide database-related reporting
- Provide production on-call support 24x365 by participating in the on-call rotation
- Coordinate with operating system administrator staff (Windows Linux) for setup of new servers (virtual) including required OS configurations as well as troubleshooting and resolving issues
- Partner with business stakeholders and application developers to understand requirements and design efficient databases structures supporting application deployments
- Keep pace with technical advancements within database management systems and supporting software. Incorporate new technologies as appropriate
- Review and implement database schema changes migrations and upgrades
- Perform routine health checks space management and capacity planning
- Optimize queries indexes and stored procedures for application performance
- Manage enterprise database systems and software environments including applicable enterprise software configurations utilizing available tools and best practice methods

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- Masters degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Requires a complete understanding and broad application of technical standards principles theories and concepts in the field of specialization.
- Requires general knowledge of other related disciplines and/or functions.
- Must be willing to relocate
- Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Knowledge of Oracle APEX from an administration standpoint helpful
- Experience with Service Now for Change Management
- Experience with PostGres SQL or MySQL
- Experience with cloud-based platforms such as Azure SQL or AWS RDS
- Knowledge of virtualization and containerization
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Oracle Enterprise Manager IDERA SQL Server Management Studio Solarwinds)
- Experience with Ansible Automation Platform
- Experience with scripting (Powershell T-SQL PL/SQL Python)
- Solid understanding of database security encryption and compliance best practices
- Experience with Oracle DataGuard and MS SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups
