Job Description

  • Completed Grade 12 or GED and a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada or
  • Completed Grade 12 or GED and a minimum of 8 Insurance Institute of Canada Chartered Insurance Professional courses for Claims Adjusting
  • A minimum of 3 consecutive years experience in the direct handling of claims involving moderate to complex commercial property and auto liability losses including resulting injury exposures (Accident Benefits/Section B and Bodily Injury claims)

Assets:

  • Knowledge of provincial injury legislation and regulations
  • Knowledge and experience with the Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Program (MVAC)/Uninsured Motorist Fund
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act
  • Knowledge of building and fire codes loss control technology and inspection practices
  • Experience with insurance claims management systems and estimating software

Skills required for success:

  • Well-developed negotiation and conflict management skills to resolve claims disputes and reach settlements with various interested parties including plaintiff lawyers and external vendors
  • Expert knowledge of insurance claim investigation techniques commercial insurance policy types contract law insurance law and relevant provincial and federal statutes (e.g. Insurance Act Occupiers Liability Act)
  • Exceptional ability to analyze moderate to complex claims physical loss exposures and contracts
  • Strong organizational skills to manage high volumes of work conflicting priorities and operational pressures effectively
  • Ability to collect evidence and support legal proceedings as required including maintaining accurate records
  • Effective written communication skills for documenting files preparing rebuttals and providing clear advisory services
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge across the Citys numerous lines of business to provide tailored insurance advisory services

Salary Range: $47.976 - $54.991 (Hourly); $84521.720- $96880.390 (Annually)

Talent Acquisition Consultant: TD/SB

Edmonton rests in the heart of Treaty Six territory in Alberta and the homelands of the Metis Nation.

As a Senior Claims Adjuster youll be instrumental in the end-to-end management of claims made by and against the City of Edmonton. This involves comprehensive investigation applying coverage negotiating fair settlements mediating disputes and pursuing recovery of damages from external parties. A significant part of your work will also include acting as a key liaison between internal City client areas external vendors project teams and legal counsel to ensure claims are resolved equitably and efficiently. The decisions you make will have a material impact on the Citys financial stability and public standing.
