Department: Athletics

Reports To: Head Coach Wrestling

Job Summary:

The Assistant Wrestling Coach is responsible for assisting with various aspects of the Wrestling program such as recruiting planning coaching scheduling opponents training team members and coordinating statistics.

Position Duties:

  • Assists the head coach in managing and directing the wrestling program.
  • Teach fundamentals and techniques as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Assists the Head Coach with all aspects of the team including training competing and scheduling.
  • Coordinate facility set up for game day.
  • Coordinate study hall for team.
  • Assists with the monitoring of daily academic reports for program.
  • Assists with the recruiting process.
  • Coordinate with Student Services for all international recruits admissions requirements.
  • Teach sportsmanship and set an example of good moral and physical behavior.
  • Represent Cowley College and the Athletic Department in a professional manner.
  • Be familiar with and follow all policies and procedures of the KJCCC and NJCAA.
  • Organize and maintain accurate inventory of equipment and uniforms.
  • Assist with coordination of travel arrangements.
  • Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department attends department meetings and activities and always represents the college positively when interacting with the community other college departments alumni high school and club coaches media and general public.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to recruit coach and teach highly talented student athletes in the Wrestling program.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all policies rules and regulations of the College Jayhawk Athletic Conference and NJCAA.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to teamwork process leadership and consensus decision making.
  • Ability to organize work effectively conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources policies and information for the determination of procedures solutions and other outcomes.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
  • Must possess accurate record keeping skills.
  • Must possess a positive attitude towards students and understand their social and personal development needs.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm in tense situations and effectively deal with confrontational situations.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting and participating in the overall athletic program student activities and College events.
  • Ability to hire and supervise qualified volunteers and student workers.
  • Ability to observe and evaluate total program and make recommendations to the Athletic Director.
  • Ability to teach sportsmanship and set an example of good moral and physical behavior.
  • Ability to market and promote Cowley College Wrestling Program.
  • Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent communications skills both written and oral.
  • Excellent human relations skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and diverse populations.
  • Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement.

Required Education Background:

  • Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years collegiate wrestling coaching or equivalent experience.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission and philosophy.
  • Experience in the development and enforcement of student conduct.
  • Experience working with student populations.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be insurable on Cowley Colleges vehicle insurance plan.

Supervisory Requirements: Work Study Students

Physical Requirements:

Ability to traverse stairs; Ability to maintain physical mobility and composure and to assist with physical student activity; Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds; ability to bend stoop reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle.

Work Environment:

Coaches are responsible for maintaining an environment free from discrimination intimidation coercion or harassment. Work is performed indoors and/or outdoors. Work is also performed throughout dorm building office location and throughout the campus. Travel required including overnight.
