Job Summary
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is an integral member of DAP Healths care teamresponsible for conducting comprehensive assessments and providing psychiatric services topatients in need of behavioral health care. They operate within an outpatient Federally QualifiedHealth Center (FQHC) setting where they collaborate closely with providers and care teamsworking with patients from diverse backgrounds and varying needs.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Prepare a complete record for each patient contact with documentation in the electronichealth record in accordance with established DAP Health protocols
  • Communicate and consult with supervising psychiatrist when situations arise which gobeyond the intent of the Standardized Procedures or outside the scope of the PNP
  • Perform psychiatric assessments including diagnosis development of treatment plansprescribing and managing psychotropic medications crisis management providingpsychiatric consultations to other providers ordering and reviewing lab work or otherstudies and making referrals to other providers as appropriate
  • Develop a personalized treatment plan for all patients and monitor progress
  • Initiate alter discontinue and renew medications in accordance with the StandardizedProcedures and approved formulary
  • Furnish only those medications within limitations as specified under the CaliforniaUniform Controlled Substance Act the Health and Safety Code and the approvedStandardized Procedures
  • Update patient database to include subjective data objective data assessment and planfor all patients under PNP care
  • Furnish pre-packaged prescription medications in accordance with approvedStandardized Procedures
  • Comply with all Federal State and DAP requirements including HIPAA
  • Complete all necessary documentation for 3rd party billing
  • Participate in scheduled meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the use of psychotropic medications
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in mental health diagnosis and treatment
  • Medical expertise consistent with advanced practice nursing
  • The ability to work well with an interdisciplinary team as well as outside agencies.
  • Highly skilled interpersonally with excellent relationship skills
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in evidence-based care including but not limited toMotivational Interviewing or similar empathy-based communication strategies
  • Awareness and sensitivity to diverse multicultural communities
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of mental health and substance use conditionsincluding both acute and chronic illness

Education and Experience

  • Valid certification by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing as a NursePractitioner
  • Certification as an Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Psychiatric Mental HealthNurse Practitioner Across the LifeSpan or Family Psychiatric Mental Health NursePractitioner from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) American Academy ofNurse Practitioners (AANP) or other nationally recognized certifying body
  • Valid California RN license
  • Valid State of California Furnishing and Dispensing number
  • Valid DEA number
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing psychiatric care including prescribingpsychotropic medications in outpatient primary care or mental health setting
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross accredited BLS certification
  • Working with underserved populations preferred
  • Working in FQHC preferred
  • Working with children adolescents and adults preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • This position is on-site at a DAP clinic location with the possibility of hybrid
  • Ability to lift 24 pounds
  • Operates in an office (or home office) setting and requires frequent times of sittingstanding repetitive motion and talking
  • Requires current and valid drivers license and current personal auto insurance
  • Requires travel and driving for in person patient care and meetings
