The Senior Speech and Language Pathologist evaluates and treats patients referred for speech language cognitive and dysphagia dysfunction. Mentors less experienced Speech Pathologists.
1. Administers speech/language and or cognitive evaluations tests or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment.
2. Evaluates speech/language test results and medical or background
information to determine speech impairment and treatment.
3. Counsels and instructs patients concerning communication disorders and how to cope
with the stress and misunderstanding that may accompany them.
4. Provides patients families and caregivers with ongoing counseling and education to facilitate communication.
5. Assists patients in developing and recovering reliable communication and swallowing
skills to allow them to fulfill their educational vocational and social roles.
6. Conducts speech pathology in-service training programs for rehabilitation staff.
7. Records and maintains reports of speech or swallowing treatments.
8. Formulates and implements group therapy programs to address the needs of impaired
patients and their families.
9. Participates in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new speech pathology or speech/cognitive/language/dysphagia treatment methods or technology.
10. Mentors less experience Speech Pathology staff.
11. Performs other related duties
