The Production Efficiency Engineer will be responsible for analysing and optimising garment production systems improving line efficiency and ensuring resources (labour machines and methods) are fully utilised. The role requires a strong focus on workflow engineering lean manufacturing and real-time problem solving to deliver measurable improvements in output cost and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Production Efficiency & Line Management
Conduct time and motion studies to establish accurate Standard Minute Values (SMVs).
Optimise line layouts and operator allocation to maximise throughput.
Track daily efficiency and recommend real-time adjustments to reduce downtime.
Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
Apply lean tools (5S Kaizen Just-in-Time) to eliminate waste and rework.
Identify systemic bottlenecks and design innovative process improvements.
Lead root cause analysis for efficiency or quality issues implementing corrective actions.
Capacity Planning & Cost Efficiency
Provide accurate efficiency and capacity data for planning and costing.
Recommend order allocation strategies that minimise overtime and optimise line usage.
Ensure cost sheets reflect true operational efficiency and labour productivity.
Quality & Compliance Support
Partner with quality teams to align efficiency improvements with product standards.
Monitor operator performance to reduce defects rejects and non-value activities.
Champion safety and compliance across production methods.
Training & Workforce Development
Train supervisors and operators on standard methods and productivity techniques.
Build capability pipelines in collaboration with HR and factory leadership.
Provide structured feedback and guidance to enhance supervisor-led efficiency.
Data Analytics & Reporting
Build and manage performance dashboards (efficiency utilisation downtime).
Analyse planned vs. actual output highlighting key variances.
Deliver weekly and monthly production efficiency reports to management.
Requirements
Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering Production Engineering or related field.
35 years experience in garment manufacturing or apparel production efficiency roles.
Strong expertise in garment production processes SMV calculation and line balancing.
Skilled in lean manufacturing process engineering and workflow optimisation.
Proficient in Excel ERP/MES and production efficiency analysis tools.
Strong analytical problem-solving and communication skills.
