Job Summary

Job Title: Structural Design Engineer

Location - Lagos - Nigeria

Job Type - Full time

Job Purpose

As a Structural Design Engineer you will be responsible for the analysis design and detailing of structural systems to ensure safety functionality durability and compliance with applicable codes and standards. The role supports the delivery of cost-effective constructible and high-quality engineering solutions for buildings and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Structural Analysis & Design

Perform structural analysis and design for buildings and infrastructure using reinforced concrete steel timber and masonry systems
Prepare structural calculations design reports and technical specifications
Develop structural layouts models and design solutions in line with project requirements
Ensure designs meet safety serviceability and durability standards

Drawings & Documentation

Produce and review structural drawings and details for construction
Coordinate with CAD/BIM teams to ensure accurate representation of designs
Prepare tender and construction documentation

Codes Standards & Compliance

Ensure compliance with local and international design codes and standards (e.g. Eurocodes BS ACI ASCE)
Participate in design reviews and technical approvals
Support regulatory submissions and approvals

Project Coordination

Collaborate with architects MEP engineers contractors and project managers
Provide technical support during construction including responding to RFIs and site queries
Review shop drawings method statements and material submissions

Quality Risk & Safety

Identify design risks and propose mitigation measures
Support value engineering initiatives to optimize cost and constructability
Ensure adherence to quality management systems and health & safety standards

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
Masters degree in Structural Engineering is an added advantage
10 years of experience in structural design (depending on level)
Experience working in consulting engineering or construction environments
Professional registration or progress toward licensure (e.g. PE PrEng CEng) is an advantage

Technical Skills

Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g. ETABS SAFE SAP2000 STAAD Robot)
Experience with design codes and standards
Knowledge of BIM and drafting tools (e.g. AutoCAD Revit)
Strong understanding of construction materials and methods

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail and commitment to engineering excellence
Effective communication and technical writing skills
Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
Good time management and ability to meet project deadlines
