WordPress Developer Intern

Industry: Digital Services / Web & WordPress Development. Sector: Remote web design development and content-driven solutions for clients across e-commerce small business and marketing agencies. This internship is ideal for developers who want hands-on WordPress experience building themes plugins and client-ready sites while learning professional dev workflows.

Role & Responsibilities

• Develop customise and maintain WordPress themes and plugins using PHP HTML CSS and JavaScript following best practices.
• Build responsive accessible front-ends and troubleshoot cross-browser issues to ensure consistent user experience across devices.
• Integrate third-party tools and services (WooCommerce payment gateways REST APIs) and create AJAX-driven interactions where required.
• Work with page-builders (Elementor/Gutenberg) to implement designs and convert mockups into production-ready pages.
• Participate in code reviews maintain Git branches create pull requests and follow CI/staging release workflows for safe deployments.
• Support site performance optimisation basic SEO improvements backups and security hardening tasks under mentor guidance.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have

• Hands-on experience building or customising WordPress sites (themes/plugins) personal projects coursework or freelance work accepted.
• Solid knowledge of PHP HTML5 CSS3 and JavaScript (ES6 basics) with a good grasp of responsive design principles.
• Familiarity with MySQL WP database structure and basic WordPress functions/hooks/actions/filters.
• Comfortable using Git for version control and working with staging/production environments.
• Strong problem-solving attitude attention to detail and eagerness to learn modern WordPress tooling (Gutenberg blocks build tools).

Preferred

• Experience with WooCommerce setup/customisation REST API integrations or building custom Gutenberg blocks.
• Familiarity with page builders (Elementor) and performance/SEO optimisation techniques.
• Exposure to WP-CLI Docker/local development environments and automated deployment pipelines.
