Atlas Transformers India Limited is searching for a dedicated and skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. This role is crucial for the mechanical design development and optimization of our Power and Distribution Transformers. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating robust cost-effective and performance-driven designs that comply with strict internal quality requirements and international industry standards.
Design and engineer all mechanical components and systems for oil-immersed and dry-type transformers including tanks cooling systems (radiators/fans) core clamps conservators enclosures and specialized structural parts.
Generate highly accurate 2D manufacturing drawings and detailed 3D models using industry-leading CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks Creo or AutoCAD).
Perform critical engineering analysis including thermal structural and mechanical stress analysis on transformer components utilizing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools to validate design integrity.
Specify and select appropriate materials surface finishes and outsourced mechanical accessories (e.g. tap changers pressure relief devices bushings) in coordination with electrical and thermal design requirements.
Collaborate cross-functionally with the Electrical Design Production and Quality teams to ensure seamless integration manufacturability and adherence to cost targets.
Prepare and finalize the complete mechanical design documentation including accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical specifications.
Ensure all mechanical designs adhere to relevant national and international standards including IEC IEEE/ANSI and applicable pressure vessel codes.
Support the Prototyping and Manufacturing stages resolving shop floor issues and driving continuous improvement in design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
Coordinate technical requirements and quality verification with external suppliers and vendors.
Education: Bachelor s or Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical design experience specifically within the Transformer Power Equipment or Heavy Electrical manufacturing industry.
CAD Proficiency: Expert proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g. SolidWorks or Creo) and 2D drafting (e.g. AutoCAD).
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of electromechanical systems thermal transfer principles and structural design.
Manufacturing Acumen: Good familiarity with transformer manufacturing processes including welding machining painting/coating systems and sheet metal fabrication.
Standards: Working knowledge of relevant industry standards (IEC ANSI IEEE).
Hands-on experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for structural or thermal simulation.
Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Proven background in Value Engineering and design optimization for cost reduction.
