Job Description

3 months contract with local authority

The Youth Justice Service aims to prevent and reduce offending among children and young people by working with high-risk repeat offenders to prevent re-offending. The role involves managing a caseload of young individuals referred by the Police or ordered by the court ensuring comprehensive assessments lead to effective interventions. The position supports young people and families in addressing factors related to offending behavior promoting desistance and enhancing social capital education emotional well-being and safety. The role includes attending Youth Court as a court officer including participation in a Saturday court rota. The organization emphasizes a culture of partnership and innovation focusing on child-centered flexible services that learn from mistakes and challenge existing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of young people referred by the Police or court.
  • Conduct holistic assessments to support robust interventions.
  • Support children young people and families with needs related to offending behavior.
  • Address factors against desistance and promote factors for desistance.
  • Attend Youth Court and act as a court officer including Saturday court coverage.
  • Foster a culture of partnership and innovation within the organization.


Requirements


Qualifications

  • Level 4 or higher professional qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. Children and Youth Social Care Probation).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development within Youth Justice.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with children young people and families with offending behavior.
  • Ability to work restoratively with children young people and crime victims.
  • Effective management of a caseload in line with local policies and Youth Justice National Standards.
  • Proficiency in writing clear and concise court reports and assessments.
  • Experience in partnership working and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of court operations and relevant Youth Justice legislation.
  • Experience in risk management public protection and safeguarding in youth offending.
  • Delivery of effective interventions to reduce risk and reoffending.
  • Knowledge of the Youth Justice landscape including best practices and specific offending areas.

Requirements: Full-time availability for a year Ability to work 36 hours per week Resilient and able to thrive in challenging situations Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills Comfortable with confrontation and able to deal with difficult situations Availability for out-of-hours meetings and lone working Daily use of a car and a full driving license
