Develop your engineering career at JLL! The Operating Engineer will have a strong focus on operating maintaining troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all systems. You will work with the JLL team that manages the client portfolio in D.C. area.
Location: Reston VA 20190
Schedule: On-site M-F 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM with a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergencies
Reporting to: Chief Engineer
Additional Perks: overtime pay on-call pay company provided uniforms cell phone & laptop
Estimated compensation: $31.39-$45.53 hourly

Job Summary:
The Operating Engineer will have a strong focus on operating maintaining troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical HVAC Piping/Plumbing Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi-skilled in others in order to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Maintain monitor and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including: fire/life safety mechanical (HVAC plumbing controls) electrical (lighting primary switch gear) and hot water systems; monitors operation adjusts and maintains refrigeration chilled water reverse osmosis system air compressor systems and air conditioning equipment; and ventilating and hot water heaters; pumps valves piping and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment; record readings and make adjustments where necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment.
- Responsible for reporting any problems/malfunctions found while demonstrating the ability to analyze the operation of various systems determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required to schedule the maintenance.
- Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage usage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the building either as representatives of the building itself or clients operating within the buildings.
- Responsible for keeping records of buildings rounds and readings all engineering logs and engineering data sheets.
- Responsible for informing contractors so that they are informed and knowledgeable with respects to the buildings critical functions and the work they are to perform including an incident contact response list.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with emergency escalation procedures.
- Must be able to respond and perform emergency repairs or preventative maintenance off hours as directed on nights and weekends.
- This position requires frequent walking climbing bending kneeling lifting stooping and working/extending overhead including:
- Lifting a minimum of 80 lbs.
- Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights.
- Climbing a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid drivers license (must maintain)
- Three (3) years of relevant work experience in preventive & corrective maintenance of commercial buildings/equipment
- Universal CFC EPA certification
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) &/or Building Management System (BMS)
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word Outlook Excel Teams)
- Strong customer service skills
- Due to federal government regulations pertaining to secured areas on-site candidates applying for the position must be able to provide proof of US Citizenship. This requirement ensures compliance with legal and security mandates. Preferred Qualifications:
- Military service union training vocational or college education
- Previous military experience is a plus including Army Prime Power Navy ET/Nuke Air Force HVAC/Power Pro Electrician
- Corrigo Experience
- Experience in Critical facilities Lab environments is a plus.
