Position Overview

This position is accountable for supervising technical personnel in obtaining accurate survey measurements forthe purpose of preparing plans for roads bridges and culverts and for the preparation of land acquisition plats and documents.

Essential Functions

Obtains accurate survey measurements in a timely manner.
Ensures that all surveys are conducted according to requirements and policies. Ensures that surveys are in proper formats and to the appropriate levels of completeness for the purposes intended.
Provides for the optimum use of electronic and computerized survey techniques in the conduct of surveys and coordinates with in-house and consultants to assure compatibility.
Assists the Chief of Surveys in preparing work schedules and determining the distribution of survey crew personnel among the various county projects.
Researches records and plans to obtain stationing and monuments for reference and starting points.
Maintains and repairs survey instruments and equipment.
Directs trains and motivates staff.
Provides training for consulting firms regarding the departments coding and procedures.
Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Current registration as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois.
Four years of experience in the practice of land surveying.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word Excel and Access.
Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with employees agency officials and the general public.
Strong oral and written communication skills.

Successful completion of a background screening.
This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
