The high level:
In FY26 Reading Partners consolidated the Baltimore and DC regions into one Mid-Atlantic region to strengthen programming and financial sustainability. The Mid-Atlantic will have an Interim Managing Director to support the merging of the two regions through the initial year of the transition.
The Interim Managing Director Reading Partners Mid-Atlantic (MD) will act as a liaison with the school and D.C. Public School leaders in Washington D.C. to maintain and enhance Reading Centers in FY26. They will serve as the primary point of contact with the district and support a local Program Manager who manages 12 AmeriCorps members serving the collaboration with the Program Manager they will work closely with the National Programs team to ensure program fidelity and oversight. The Interim MD will also play a key role in supporting local fundraising efforts to reach the goal of $1.5 million in private funding. They will report to an Executive Director based in Baltimore MD and collaborate to manage the integration of the advisory board in this newly imagined regional structure. This is an interim position and it ends on June 30 2026. The role may be extended pending grant funding.
What youll do:
- Liaise with school and district leaders to provide direct tutoring services in five Reading Centers in FY26.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with the D.C. Public School District.
- Coach and support the Washington D.C. Program Manager in conjunction with the Mid-Atlantic Executive Director and the National Program team.
- Provide oversight of program fidelity and ensure AmeriCorps member retention.
- Partner with the assigned Regional Development Director to raise $1.5 million in private funding.
- Partner with the Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic region to ensure that regional advisory boards in Baltimore and Washington D.C. integrate successfully.
How youll do it:
People & Operations Management:
- Lead motivate and support a Program Manager and AmeriCorps members to achieve results while coaching and developing the capacity of the people on the team. You oversee and deliver professional development and management training for regional staff. You demonstrate an advanced ability to plan and implement efficient internal operations to support future growth. Demonstrate experience serving as an inspiring mentor to staff members either in a formal management structure or informally through influence. You also can develop a strategic vision and motivate teams to achieve measurable goals while maintaining a results-oriented collaborative and healthy organizational culture. You bring a strong track record of establishing the metrics processes and protocols needed to effectively move from vision to implementation. Finally you have experience juggling multiple work streams concurrently managing complex and competing priorities and executing ambitious goals effectively.
Relationship Development & Communications:
- You establish deep relationships with internal and external stakeholders including staff community constituents elected officials media outlets nonprofit and business leaders as well as board members. You can open doors make connections tell a compelling story build consensus and create opportunities to both generate revenue and support advancement in literacy education across the region and within a very competitive market. You have experience identifying building and maintaining strong relationships with a diverse array of nonprofit government community private sector and high-net-worth stakeholders. You are someone who is an effective communicator a natural connector and you have a track record of successfully increasing revenue and cultivating donors and community support.
Bonus Points if you:
- Are an AmeriCorps Peace Corps or other national service alum/alumna
- Have experience working in launch or growth phases of organizations

We aim to set salaries based on objective external high-quality market data. Our salaries are adjusted for candidates in different geographic regions. - This is a full-time temporary exempt and salaried position. This position will conclude on or before June 30 2026. The role may be extended pending grant funding. The pay range for this position is $121334 - $151668 per year.

- Travel: This position travels regularly throughout Washington D.C. with some travel required to Baltimore MD. This position may also involve occasional travel to Reading Partners National Headquarters in Oakland CA.
Qualifications

- Have 3 years of senior-level leadership and managerial experience.
- Must have experience working with nonprofits school districts government officials and philanthropic organizations in the Washington D.C. area.
- Experience leading a team of emerging and mid-level professionals in an education setting.
- Adept at building relationships with community partners policymakers funders and other supporters.
- Track record of building strong and productive relationships with regional/national philanthropic organizations and individual donors.
- Have demonstrated experience in planning leading and managing development projects to achieve desired outcomes and tracking and reporting on progress to leaders.
- Demonstrate a commitment to fostering a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
- Display a deep belief in our mission and root your work in ourcore values.
- Ability to prove eligibility to work legally in the U.S. and that you are at least 18 years of age.
