Title: Assistant Professor (Environmental Health)

To begin August 2026 or as soon thereafter as possible. Applicants who are ABD will be considered; however degree requirements must be met by the effective date of appointment. Official transcripts or equivalent documents from the institution confirming the highest educational degree relevant to this position are required upon hire.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach online and in-person courses on topics related to environmental health climate health and health issues affecting Hawaii and the Pacific as well as other public health topics for undergraduate and graduate public health and other health professional students;
  • Conduct and maintain independent research on topics related to environmental health as evidenced by extramural grants peer-reviewed publications and/or scholarly activities and products;
  • Plan and establish new courses and programs;
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate public health students;
  • Serve on departmental school and university committees;
  • Provide service to professional and community stakeholders as relevant to the individuals academic specialty;
  • Engage in activities to advance the departments mission;
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in environmental health public health or closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing;
  • Demonstrated ability as a teacher;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct active research on environmental health and climate health with emphasis on issues relevant to Hawaii and Pacific Island populations as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or other scholarly products including research grants;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience working in multicultural settings;
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others;
  • Commitment to the health and well-being of communities in Hawaii and the Pacific;


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Established record of effective teaching to undergraduate and/or graduate students through classroom and/or distance education modalities;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new courses and/or programs;
  • Experience in supervising and/or mentoring students in higher education;
  • Sustained scholarly contributions in environmental health and climate health emphasizing challenges faced in HawaiI and the Pacific with demonstrated potential to advance knowledge and promote healthy communities;
  • Demonstrated ability to actively lead and collaborate on grant funded research;
  • Interest in contributing to UH Manoas mission.
