Job Overview
The Director of Software Development is a is a senior engineering manager responsible for overseeing the design development and delivery of high-quality software solutions that align with organizational goals. This role leads multiple development teams drives technical excellence fosters innovation and ensures scalable processes to support growth. The Director partners closely with hardware systems operations and business leaders to deliver customer-focused solutions while ensuring best practices in engineering and development lifecycle management. The Director owns the software development capability for the business unit and is responsible for staffing mentoring and growing high performing teams.
Essential Functions
Provide strategic direction and leadership for software development teams ensuring alignment with company vision goals and product roadmap.
Lead mentor and develop engineering managers and senior technical staff to build high performing collaborative and engaged teams.
Oversee the planning execution and delivery of software projects ensuring adherence to timelines quality and budget requirements.
Establish and enforce engineering best practices including coding standards architecture design testing and CI/CD.
Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and methodologies to improve development efficiency and product capabilities.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management QA DevOps and other business units to ensure successful product releases and customer satisfaction.
Develop and manage budgets software tools and systems architectures for the business unit product lines.
Manage resource planning hiring and career development within the development organization.
Monitor and improve software development processes tools and metrics to drive continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with security regulatory and data protection standards in software design and delivery.
Perform other duties as required.
Regular and reliable attendance on a full time basis or in accordance with posted schedule.

Qualifications and Competencies
Proven track record of leading large-scale complex software projects teams from conception to delivery.
Deep understanding of modern software development practices AI cloud architectures and agile methodologies.
Strong technical background
Exceptional leadership communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to balance strategic thinking with technical engagement when needed.
Directs and provides expert knowledge in the strategic function of the department.
Develops short and long-term people and organizational strategy in alignment with AEVEX goals and direction.
Leads with impact & influence. Establishes credibility effectively persuades and develops others and achieves important objectives collaboratively.
Identifies recruits and retains top-notch talent.
Champions AEVEXs culture and empowers employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals.
Sets performance standards and encourages employee engagement and results through delegation continuous feedback goal setting and performance management.
Maintains transparent communication. Appropriately communicates organization information through department meetings one-on-one meetings and appropriate email and regular interpersonal communication.
Education / Certifications
Bachelors degree in computer science Software Engineering or related field (Masterspreferred).
Experience
10 years of progressive software development experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing managers and technical teams.
Experience managing budgets vendor relationships and distributed/remote teams is a plus.
