The Opportunity

The Sr Embedded Software Engineer works out of our San Diego CA office on site every day in the Infectious Diseases Group in Abbott Rapid Diagnostics. Were empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day more than 10 million tests are run on Abbotts diagnostics instruments providing lab results for millions of people.

This role will design implement and evaluate software using languages such as Java full stack engineering using embedded coding. This role is on site working with a great team in the office in San Diego CA.

What Youll Work On

  • Demonstrate expert knowledge and proficiency of the complete software development process using Java as the main language.

  • Design and implement robust scalable and maintainable software using Java with a strong grasp of OOP data structures concurrency and design patterns.

  • Experience with database JDBC RESTful and SOAP-based web services.

  • Implement microservices and SOA-based solutions using frameworks like Spring Boot Spring Cloud and Jakarta EE.

  • Experience with integration of internal and external systems using API gateways message brokers (e.g. Kafka RabbitMQ) and enterprise integration patterns.

  • Involved in end-to-end implementation of all internal and external interfaces implementation patterns and unit integration and performance testing strategy for all features in one or more subsystems.

  • Debug troubleshoot and isolate software problems as well as provide strategic solutions analysis and contribute to process/design improvements.

  • Communicate with internal stakeholders on decisions that impact their team.

  • Participate in design reviews create/update design documents and address review feedback. Also contribute and support reviews held by peers on related projects and provide feedback.

  • Assist in assessing areas impacted by new feature requests and determine approach to accommodate new capabilities.

  • Participates in root cause investigations on high-complexity or high-severity issues.

  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS) Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and other regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees customers contractors and vendors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree plus a minimum of 6 years of related experience

  • Or Masters Degree with at least4 years of experience in Java development.

  • Proven expertise in software architecture and framework building.

  • Strong hands-on programming/coding knowledge of Java.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in engineering or computer science preferred

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for staying updated with the latest industry trends.

  • Medical device product development knowledge a plus

  • Proficiency in Docker Kubernetes and cloud platforms

  • Experience with issue tracking software such as Jira.

  • Experience with visual modeling multi-threading formal software development methodologies and source code management

  • Ability to independently learn/explore existing system functionality.

  • Experience with cross platform programming languages like React is a plus.

  • Intermediate to moderate understanding of Linux Operating system.

  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency creativity and independent thought.

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills. Ability to debug and arrive at solutions.

  • C C and other embedded languages are a plus!!!!

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
