Job Purpose:

The Child Care Specialist isresponsible for ensuring that Melinda Webb School consistently meets the Texasminimum standards established by Child Care Regulation and Texas Rising Star. TheChild Care Specialist also provides daily support and mentoring to teachingassistants at Melinda Webb School. The Child Care Specialist assists theDirector of Education in the management of daily operations of the Melinda WebbSchool.

Major Responsibilities:

Oversees and manages the Melinda Webb School Year Round Program

Leads and supports classroom activities during year-round schooldays by collaborating with educators facilitating student engagement andcontributing to instructional routines

Filing accurate record keeping and other documentation asrequired by child care regulation

Coordinate student registration process; collect review andsubmit registration documents

Develop and implement emergency response plans to ensure thesafety of children and staff in case of unforeseen events

Establish and enforce rigorous safety and health standardsincluding maintaining a safe environment conducting regular inspections andaddressing any issues promptly to ensure the well-being of children and staff.

Provides additional classroom support as needed throughout theschool year.

Works directly with the director of education to communicate withparents to answer questions and concerns via email phone calls and in-personmeetings

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education

PhysicalDemands:

Stand three or more hours a day;walk 10000 steps a day; sit in low chairs and on the floor; hear; speakclearly; able to bend over; reach with hands and arms; able to lift or move20-pound boxes or furniture; able to lift and carry a 50-pound child; able tocontrol a child with aggressive behaviors; able to actively participate inoutdoor events including in extreme temperatures; Flu and COVID vaccinesrequired provided by THI at no cost to employees.

Educationand Experience Requirements :

Associates or Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education orrelated field

1-2 years of leadership experience preferred

An understanding of early childhood development

Philosophical agreement with and commitment to the mission ofTexas Hearing Institute

Child Care Director license through Texas Department of Health andHuman Services preferred

Skills:

Multi-tasking and prioritize tasks assigned by Director ofEducation.

Must be able to effectively communicate with families and THIstaff to relay and gather needed information.

Maintains strict confidentiality with regard to protected healthinformation and abides by Texas Hearing Institutes HIPAA Privacy and SecurityPolicies

SpecificSkills:

Organizational skills classroommanagement composure in stressful situations patience when handling childrendiagnostic teaching skills flexibility during schedule changes and specialevents

BasicCompetencies:

Excellent oral and written use ofEnglish language Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook comprehensiveunderstanding of early childhood development internet
