The Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions including bank and credit card reconciliations budget preparation and ad hoc reporting requests. This role supports the churchs mission by ensuring accuracy integrity and stewardship of financial resources.
Your Day-to-Day
Every day looks different but heres a snapshot of what youll be up to:
- Manage all accounting transactions and maintain general ledger
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Prepare and analyze the trial balance during monthly close
- Assist in preparation of financial statements including Balance Sheets Income Statements and Cash Flow Statements
- Assist in month end and year end closing process
- Assist in budget preparation and tracking expenses
- Ad hoc reporting requests regarding giving or financial analyses
- Identity and help implement opportunities to improve financial processes and controls
What Were Looking For
The must-haves for this role:
- Education & Experience: We are looking for someone with a bachelors degree in Accounting and 1-3 years of experience in accounting.
- Skills & Strengths: We are looking for someone who:
- Aligns with the vision and mission of BattleCreek Church.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including experience with advanced functions
- Excellent analytical organizational and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Sage Intacct and/or Ministry Platform is considered a plus

The Essentials
Depending on the role you might find yourself in an office on stage out in the community or working behind the scenes.
This role is primarily office-based but may involve some physical activity including standing lifting (up to 20 pounds) kneeling setting up equipment or prepping for eventssometimes even late at night. Dont worry; well ensure you know what to expect!
